I have a 97 F450 dump. I just picked it up from the muffler man. He took the cat off and ran a straight pipe from the downpipe back. Now when my rpms go up and stay at a constant level, I have this weird air whistle noise. It kinda sounds like an air compressor blowing off air. It never did this until the cat came off. Any ideas what this noise is and what is causing it. It will do it when truck is in park and I rev it up and keep the rpms at a constant level. It will also do it going down the road when rpms are at a constant level. Any ideas?

it could be that he didn't seal everything right I'd double check the v-clamp at the turbo cause he prob loosened it as well as the mid dp joint.

My first thought is that you're just hearing the turbo more now with the open exhaust. if you've got a leak just drive it around for a while and the soot will show the hole.

if this f450 has a powerstroke in it its your exhaust backpressure valve closing when your driving, its located in the outlet housing of turbo, these will close when the engine is cold in cold weather. kind of a warm up valve. you just could not hear it with the sound deadening of the cat. you can unplug it. the plugin is located under the inlet for the turbo coming from the air filter.

Yeah, it sounds like the EBPV is closing on you. Its the device in the turbo outlet designed to close to get engine up to operating temps in cold weather. There are three sensors that affect it. Engine oil temp, intake air temp and exhaust back pressure sensor. The one that usually is the culprit it the back pressure sensor. There is a tube coming off the lower front side of the passengers manifold going up to a sensor mounted between the HPOP and Alt. That tube will get clogged with soot and then the sensor cant read the back pressure so it closes the valve.
