I can get a napa air filter during their filter sale for under $40. Are they as good as motorcraft? I have 40k on mine but it still looks clean.

Napa's filter is a Donaldson (it has PowerCore right on it)... been working fine for me, I buy them on the spring sale too

oh and to the OP I changed mine at 55k and I think it was fine they can go a long time
but at $40 I would do it for fun

I'll make sure its a donaldson but sounds better than $100. If Zman made it to 55k how far you other guys run them to. I'm pretty much on hard roads all the time with very little gravel roads so mine could go longer.

check the filter minder on the side while it's running also it has a service filter light on the dash .. this application is supposed to be pretty reliable
do yourself a favor and search on how to change the filter before you jump in .. it's a little but of a biotch but doable for even the basic back yard mechanic

They can put up a fight if you try to cheat by not all of the parts that are in the way. I remove the intake lines going from the filter to the intake elbow. It is still a struggle, but keep fighting and you will get it.

there are some good pictorials out there ,, the most important thing is to make sure you get it all sealed back up ,, you don't want to not get it together and direct unfiltered air into the motor ,, it happens

One trick I learned on the 6.0 filter is to put a little dielectric grease on the 2 rubber grommets that the filter sits in. Makes it lots easier to slide it down 
Also, we have to remember that paper gets old. I recommend to all my customers changing air filters every year no matter how many hours/ miles. Cheap insurance.
You would be amazed how many times I have changed an air filter that was 20+ years old, usually on tractors
