Hello folks. I'm interested in possibly purchasing a 2006 F250 Lariat with the 6.0 diesel. I do not know much about them and was looking for some advice. Is the 6.0 a good reliable engine? Is the F250 reliable in general?Would I be happy with the power for towing? I see it is rated at 12,500 max towing capacity. I'm purchasing a 31ft TT with a UVWR of 7400lbs.

Thanks

One of the main reasons I bought my PSD was because it was known as the most reliable of the big 3, may not be up to Chevy when it comes to HP, but $800 changed that very easily (Edge Juice w/ Attitude).

I love my 6.0L, and everyday when I hop into my truck I'm thankful that I made the decision.

And this engine can tow way over 12,500 lbs., you just need a 5th wheel.

RHACK, Welcome to SSD.com. Hope you come back often You didn't say what kind of truck you are wanting to buy. 2WD or 4WD Crew Cab or Super Cab, Short Bed or Long Bed. You will see that a lot of us here are also into R/V ing. That said I kinda like the old saying when talking about a 6.0 an a T/S Auto. Don't Worry About The Horse, just load the wagon. The Ford Truck and the 6.0 can take it. :sweet :sweet
Rhack, please tell us where your from.

Welcome to SDD!

I'm a little bit biased - but yep - I think they are the best thing out there and will serve you well.

One note though - take a look at the 350's also - very little difference in price but you get a lot more load and tow ratings. You will feel better towing that 31 footer. Unloaded ride will be about the same in either.

Hey there thanks for the replies. I'm just outside of Charlotte,NC. Been towing a 27ft 6000lb. TT with a Nissan Titan for 2 years now. So far I have been very pleased. The truck has alot of power, I can breeze up the mtns on the way to Ashville without any problems. Now that we are buying a 31ft TT that is quite a bit heavier and will bring the Titan close to capacity. I thought I should go with something more substantial for towing. Seen a nice 2WD/Crew cab Lariat I think with the short bed with 13K miles on it at a dealership, they are asking $35k. From looking at new truck prices that seems to sound reasonable.

In hindsight I should have spent a few dollars extra 2 years ago and gotton one of the big boy trucks to start with.

Thanks again for the advice. Hopefully I'll get me a F250 so I can hang around here a little more.

rhack...Welcome to SDD. As far as the reliability of the 6.0 goes it
is just like any other vehicle, take care of it and it'll take care of you.

Like Ron said look at the 350, I was all set to get a 250 and then I discovered that for a little more money I could get all the truck I'd ever need.

So in 3 words...............

GO FOR IT

Lots of bad press from ignorant sorts who take VERY old issues and apply them to the new vehicles. The bugs have been worked out, and as it has been said, take care of it, it will take care of you. Don't baby it, but don't beat it like a government mule either. That will kill ANY truck, GM, Ford, or D/C.

Hey Diesel I'm in Concord. I knew I was gonna get whacked for mentioning the Titan. Say what you will but its got some power to it and has been a good vehicle. Anyway, cut me some slack, I'm looking at the Fords now.
