I know that some put intercoolers on OBS trucks, and some will replace stock intercoolers with an aftermarket unit. What kind of horsepower gains/ advantages do you see with an intercooler? Is it worth the price to put one on my truck?

cooler compressed air expands more than hot compressed air
which eguals more efficient burn of said fuel
and with a cooler air charge you can add more fuel to get more power and stay within the acceptable egt ranges of the alum pistons somewheres around 1300-1350 (1400 F prolonged will drastically reduce the life of your pistons real quick) shrt transits through should be a no problem

as for costs? i know somewhere here TG who is selling a 7.3 cooler
it all depends on who you talk to about price etc vs hp gains or longevity

cooler charged air wil make the engine run cooler on a given amount of fuel as well.

I have thought about using water/meth injection instead and does the same to cool the air. It is cheaper and less required to install. I read an article in Diesel Power that they put on a 97 instead of going with intercooler. You can set them to come on at certain temps or small amounts constantly. They were saying this adds more power than just the intercooled air alone.
