Hey,

I have a feeling what im hearing is normal but I thought id ask anyways. When I gun the truck from a stop or while moving and let off fairly quickly I hear a couple of wooshing or poping noises, is this just the turbos blow off valve or is this the turbo "farting" as some people call it? How do I distinguish the difference between the two?

Thanks
Jeff

its turbo fart to us or exhaust back pressure valve-ing
to the ford engineers.

consider it the "waste gate" effect....quick pressure build (from
throttle) and a SNAP <off>...what you hear is the pressure being
let off by the EBPV solenoid.

as i really or IIRC...the EBPV vents thru the air box, btw

what is the IIRC ?

and to the original poster, we do not have "blow off valves", what you are hearing is the pressure surge in the turbo. i was not aware of the EBPV actually venting this, that is new info to me, thanks bush, i always thought it was just the compressor surge from the backpressure, and as we all know, over time it can be detrimental to the turbo.

i'd like to know more about how the ebpv works in this regard

Is there any remedy to prevent turbo damage or is it just one of those things you need to try and prevent from happening by driving a certain way? Thanks for the explanation bushpilot. :thumbs

Cheers

IIRC = if I recall correctly

Don't let off the throttle suddenly if you can avoid it. It will cause no harm to the turbo, but I wouldn't stress it.
