Build date of 4/99 is considered a 99, there were no 98's produced. 99 was only about a half year production due to Ford not getting the ball rolling between the old body style pickups of the 94-97 vintage and the new (then new) Super Duty platform.

Welcome to the forums hound, how many miles on the F-450?

With a build date of 4/99 you would have yourself a late 99. Mine is 6/99 which is the last month in which 99's were made.

99 model year trucks were made from 3/98-6/99 making them one of the longer runs of Ford trucks. There were a ton of 97's and 99's to fill the gap for the the non existing 98's.

Thanks for the info.

It has 98,000 miles, but it was a work truck and will be used to haul plywood and lumber. It's been rode hard and put away wet, but an new air filter gave me some better mileage and about 10 mph on the top end. I'm not sure if the oil was ever changed either after doing a quick change. It starts well, but it has died on the highway...just cut out; no power anything.....let it sit for 20 min and it's good to go. I might be shorting it out with a phone charger..I jsut don't know. Sometimes it loses power as if it's not getting enough fuel, might need a new filter. This is my first diesel vehicle. We also got a new '06 F-350 w/ 6.0.

if it was used as a work truck that was "abused" as far as maintenance goes, i would go and change all the fluids and filters it has. much better performance, reliability, and it will make it last longer. ideally, you should do ALL of these as soon as possible.

flush cooling system, new coolant with SCA, same color as original.
new engine oil and filter (you already have)
fuel filter
flush transmission fluid out (replace with synthetic optimally,) and a new filter
flush power steering system out with ATF
change transfercase oil (if 4wd)
change front and rear differential fluid
