I have a '99 Super Duty that sits for weeks at a time, used mostly for towing. I recently noticed an oil puddle under the truck and found that it was coming from the power steering pump resevoir, it was overflowing out of the cap. I assume that the return line from the hydro booster is draining back into the resevoir. Are there any check valves in the system that can be checked / replaced? I've traced all of the hoses and can't find anything obvious. Perhaps ther is a check valve internal to the pump or hydro booster??
Once the engine is cranked, the fluid in the resevoir sucks down to normal and the steering and brakes operate normally.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Tks, Danny
