94 IDI stalling out

My Dads truck will die sometimes for no reason. It has to sit for 20 min or so before it will start back up. He told me that he tried to drain the F/W seperator and nothing came out. Is the LP electric or mechanical? Any ideas? Thanks.

to SuperDutyDiesel, Txwelder. This truck is very simple. You have fuel or not. Your fuel filter can become clogged, as can the Water Separator. Take them apart and clean them out and see what happens. I will bet it will start. The pump on this truck is mechanical, like a gas rig.

how many miles on it?when was the last time the injection pump was replaced?usually when they stall and wont start hot is the IP.when they get hot the clearances are too loose and it looses pressure

Fuel pump is on the right (passenger) side of the engine. Good chance the fuel pump has died.

I second the fuel pump. Throw a new fuel filter on it and if you can't get it to squirt fuel out of the bleeder valve then its time for a new pump.
