My 92 wedge truck has 171000 with a Metric auto trans. I started it and there is a grinding noise from hell coming from the area where the engine and trans meet. Pulled the bell housing cover and found play in the flywheel to the tune of 5 teeth side to side. Torque converter and flywheel are turning in sync and all bolts are tight. I'm thinking the flywheel bolts have come loose and maybe wallowed out the holes in the flywheel. Any suggestions or direction before I take apart as to what I need to look for? Thank you.

Had a similar issue on my 1990 F-250 farm truck 12 or 15 years ago. A horrible rattle/vibration. Turned out that the flex plate had some huge cracks in it. One section, that used to have a bolt hole was completely gone. A second hole wasn't much better. The other two were still holes but they weren't anything close to round anymore. In my case, as bad as it was, I couldn't see the problem without pulling the transmission. For a piece of pressed sheet metal, those flex plates are mighty expensive if you can even find one. I think Ford has discontinued them. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Good luck
