7.3L manual trans

I just bought a 2001 super duty with a 7.3 diesel, it has the 6 speed manual trans. I cannot find anywhere the name and manufactuer of the trans. I have not had a chance to drive it but they have told me something is wrong with it it won't shift into 4th. One of the guys who has drove it says it might just be a worn clutch which is fairly easy to replace if not hopfully just the syncros are worn. are there rebuild kits for this trans? is it doable

It's a ZF S6

They can be rebuilt. I am sure some one has kits for them, just google "rebuild kit for ZF S6".

I had mine torn into by a trans shop,and found several teeth missing from 4th gear. The trans shop let me know that the trans was german made and it was an arse to get the cluster gears apart to get to the culprit. they claimed there was a special tool that was needed to accomplish this seperation. Doesn't sound like a driveway repair to me, and I have two full rollaways in the garage from my previous job. JMO
