A loose chip will definately cause the problems you have. I've got mine fastened on there with duct tape, and it has not moved. The chip sits on the pcm, and then i put the housing on, then duct taped the crap out of it.

Yea, when I found the chip somewhat loose, I sorta figured that would cause it. It had been taped in place, but the PCM cover screws had never been put back in place, so that give it some ability to vibrate and shake I guess. If this proves out, I may reinstall with some 'real' tape instead of masking tape.

if it does "cure" it, post back and tell us..

I will be driving it this whole weekend back and forth to work, so if it acts OK, I will keep it posted .

:clap:Well Fellas, glad to report that the big white mule has not missed a lick since finding the programmer loose in the PCM last week. Drove it to work all weekend and had no problems or symptoms at all. Sure glad that it was something that was an easy fix. Probably will put the 'chip' back in place tomorrow (with better tape this time) and see how it goes. Boy, it aint no fun driving without the extra HP from the programmer. It definitely makes a difference.

Thanks for all the thoughts and ideas. :hail

As a follow up to the intermittent shut down issue that the big white mule was having, the loose programmer chip in the PCM was definitaly the problem. After driving it a couple of more days and having no issues with shutting down, I soon tired of not having the extra power and crispness of throttle without the programmer, so I reinstalled the SuperChip before coming home from work on Monday. Man! , it felt so good to have the racehorse back again. WOOHOO! All is well, again.:D Now where is that Duct Tape?

Does it "Cut Off" then fire back up.. in motion ? If so, more likely the CPS.

Hey Doug, I would have to agree with Big Joe's response above and take a look at the CPS. Especially, if you have not already changed it out. There was a recall at one time from the Ford Co about the CPS and it was a dealer changeout costing the owner nothing but the time and effort to get it to the dealer.

Oh yea, I had changed mine out several years ago with a CPS from the local IH dealer. It was doing the exact same thing that yours is doing. The IH units were supposedly better, and cheaper than from the Ford dealer.
