Help started my truck this morning & it started fine let it warm up maby 5min. took off pulled out on the road shifted to 2nd gear and the truck started shaking and losing power. It took a mile to get over 30mph. Temp out side was 40. The engine lite came on imediatly. pulled over and let warm up to operating temp but no change. Limped two more miles ,stoped at a store and shut it off. Tried to start it back up and it was slow to start but it started. drove 25 miles home and could not get above 2000 rpm. Any ideas of what to look for.

If your OD light wasnt flashing I'd look at the head gaskets or fuel system. Take it to a transmission shop that has a Snap-On computer..its like $25 for a scan. It's a LOT better than autozones code reader. Could just be a bad sensor....

don;t worry about head gaskets, they are almost unheard of on 7.3's, especially if you are stock.

what is the state of fuel and air filters? check your charge air/turbo piping?

get it scanned and post up the codes. any shop with a reputable scanner will be able to pull the codes.

dp

ps: you did check your parking brake for hanging up right?

I have a 96 all stock psd. It blew a head gasket 2 years ago when the temp was in the single digits and it took me FOREVER to get up to 30mph. I doubt it is the head gasket but dont rule it out. I saw another guy on here yesterday having head gasket issues. We could speculate all day long about what it could be. Best thing to do would be to have that/them code(s) pulled.

Truck will start but runs realy rough (skipping at idle) don't have a code reader. It will baerly pull itself , akts like it is running out of fuel.

if your gut is telling you that its fuel related, follow it.

some obvious questions-

1. did you fill up the truck? are you sure you filled up with diesel? sometimes gas gets put into diesel tanks by the delivery guys. stranger things have happened.

2. how long has that POS K&N filter been on there. think about getting rid of it.

3. check the fuel filter lid and the valley for fuel leaks. any fuel leaks?

4. check, or better yet replace the POS QD fittings at the fuel pump. they are known to leak and/or suck air.

The first thing I'd check is the UVC connectors. They're infamous for coming at least partially disconnected causing rough running and poor performance. The symptoms also will come & go with temp changes causing the contacts in the plug to make intermittant contact. Once the UVC harness connections are verified, go from there.

If the tank is below 1/4, put some more fuel in and see if it gets better. Maybe in need of a "Hutch" mod?

Thinking the same thing, running on half of the engine with no power and a SES light immediately. Probably the UVC harness good call. Get the codes ASAP. No way head gasket!
