is it supposed to take me to the 94-97 forums?

:foshiz

I cant think of a better place to learn about the first gen PSD than in the 94-97 discussion forums. Those guys have turned every nut and bolt on those trucks from the radiator to the rear end. Post your questions, they'll be answered.

you know how they have the torque ratings for the trucks.like say mine is somewhere around 450ft lbs of tq @1800rpms.when it hits 1800rpms that is its peak torque, what im wondering isso after that rpm, does it get weaker,if so how much,or does it flatline in tq after that rpm.cause if im towing i would want to stay near that rpm right.thats the way it seems, but on my truck the higher rpms feel more powerful then the lower rpms.sowhats the deal on the tq numbers and how should i tow.

Peak TQ around 1800 rpm, peak HP around 3000 or so, the PSD will pull its guts out at 3000 rpm. So, if you are speaking of trailer towing (highway speeds) and you begin to feel the truck bog down, get into a lower gear, get the revs up and look out. If you let the RPMs and boost fall while towing you will encounter high EGT issues.

The torque begins to fall, its a very flat fall and it hangs in there to around 2400 RPM where it is still over 400 ft lb, the HP is really begining to come on around 2400 RPM and gets in its best range around 2850 or so, So you can see that the where the TQ begins to fall the HP is kicking in.

It'll run there all day long BUT, I wouldnt run those revs unless I had to. How heavy are you towing? I liked to pull my 95 at 70mph in OD (I had an auto) and that put me around 2000-2250 RPM, when I was going to pass or approaching a grade I would get out of OD and get the RPMs up. At 70 with my trailer I could get 12-14 mpg, if you tow in 4th @ 2400-2800 rpm you'll be well below 10 mpg for sure.
