Ok so I picked up an 01 7.3 4x4 cc dually a few months ago and I am having a few issues with it, and I am not sure which way to turn. I bought an 01 new, and I seem to remember it running better than this one, it just seems like it does not have any power at the hit of the throttle, and falls on its face when it shifts unless I am on the throttle hard. It had an edge programmer in it when I bought it, but I didnt like how hard the trans shifted, so I took it out. This is what I do know about it so far.
It has 118,231 miles on it.
The muffler and particulate filter have been removed so it is straight pipped
It has an AFE fresh air intake on it
I had the radiator checked and it flows fine.
I replaced the fan, and fan clutch, and belt with OEM Ford.
1 of the vacuum lines that go to the solenoid on the turbo pedistal is not hooked up, and is just plugged. I believe this is the one for the wastegate, but not sure.
I can drive it all day long without a load and it runs fine, but as soon as I put a heavy trailer behind it and pull a grade it starts to get warm. If I back out of the throttle and turn the heater on, I can get it to cool down rather quickly, but then I repeat the process. When I got home from my trip this weekend and went to take the trailer to storage the check engine light came on. The code came up that the exhaust pressure was high. (not egt) I cleared the code and it has yet to come back on.
I am not sure if anything in the begining of this has to do with it getting warm, but I am at a loss. Any input would be great!!
