so, do I have to do the one at the tank too? is it as important as the one at the pump? I saw the pick up deal. Isnt a disconnect on the outside of sending unit hooking to the gas line? hows that attach up there from factory?

No, you don't HAVE to do the in-tank mod*. The fuel pump inlet fitting mod is, IMO, more important to do.. because IF that fitting IS leaking air.. it IS leaking air in.. continuously.

*As long as you keep a half a tank of fuel on board.. the fitting in the tank is submerged in fuel and won't/can't suck air in.

AND.. for all that might be following this thread ? Don't Worry.. yer NOT going to Explode yer engine.. if you don't do these Mods.

But.. yer engine will probably run better, if you do them. Air, in the fuel supply lines, of a fuel injected engine.. Gas or Diesel, is not.. A Good Thing...?

thanks big joe,
maybe i am missing it in your responses, what i am trying to ask is not about the inside the tank. The line where it hooks to the unit outside on top of the tank. is that a qd line?
does that leak air?(not referring to the pick up where you use a 3/8 coupler and a piece of line(ss)
sorry for all the questions and if I am missing it

No worries.

No, the exterior tank fittings are not QD type fittings

If yer refering to the Fuel Pump inlet mod.... Yul want to replace that Whole fitting assembly (plastic line, fitting, and 1 crimp clamp), that connects the steel line from the tank, to the inlet of the fuel pump.

There's specail tool available to release the QD type connector at the fuel pump... But, IMO, for the cost, and.. it's a One Time, Permentent fix... a pair of needle nose pliars or Vise Grips will do the job (yer call).

1. Pre-cut the diesel friendly fuel hose to needed length, put a band clamp on each end.

2. Remove the old fitting assembly, install the new hose... Be ready and be Quik.... fuel will dribble out.. from the tank.

3. Tighten the clamps. Cycle the key 2-3 times.. but don't start the engine.

Start the engine, check for leaks.. yer done.

I love this stuff PB..;tu

OBTW ? Anyone thinking about doing this Mod ? Now would be a good time (and place) to install a pre-pump fuel filter. Many of the SDD vendor/sponcors have sweet kits.. with all the pieces, parts & hose, to do the deed.

:dunno
