6.7 PSD engine/trans mods?

I have a new 6.7 Power Stroke Diesel Ford F-250 SuperCab on order,and was wondering within Gov't/Manufacturer specs and warranty limitations what performance and fuel effeciency mods can be made without major expense? On my 2001 7.3 PSD FORD SuperCab I was able to make several relatively easy and inexpensive mods like 4 inch straight exhaust,tranny oil pan (finned Aluminum & extra capacity),AEF air cleaner,Zodad mod,etc. I never chipped my 7.3 and never would. All these simple mods will let me pull my 40' 4" Designer Fifthwheel in the 13.5 to 14.0 MPG fuel mileage range at 65-68 mph or approx. 1,750 rpms. Love the 2001 7.3 PSD and only have 108,800 K miles on my reliable old friend. Never seen winter,not a single door ding,plastic factory floor covering and mats stll in plastic from factory! Oil changed every 3K miles,no problems ever! I hope my new 6.7 PSD is as good ! Thanks for any performance suggestions on the new 6.7----anyone who wants to become the owner/friend of my awesome 2011 7.3 PSD let me know--I won't have room for 2 when my new 6.7 is built and shipped from the FORD Louisville,Ky Assembly Plant!

Wait tell you get your new truck and after you put a few miles on it, I think you will be pleased with the new truck.
I have talked to 2 or 3 guys and they were going to put something on the new truck. After having it for 3 or 4 mo they
didn't want to do anything to it.

Thanks WD40-I really hope there is little not to like about the new ,all-Ford 6.7 PSD. I wonder if the UREA-Exhaust Fluid will be something that can be omitted for better performance. Also, Does anyone know what the difference is in the Ford F-350 and F-250 (equiped with similar "towing Package" and '10,000 GVWR packages ?? They both have a tow rating at 16,000 pounds. So what are the differnces? Thanks again for your help!

The major difference between the F-250 and F-350 is the springs. That and the tire load ratings give you the load carrying capacity increase for the F-350. I have owned both and that is the difference. I do not know anything about the UREA and if it is possible to delete.

Thanks DaveBen! What are your thoughts on my new (ordered and due in) Ford F-250 vs my existing 2001 F-350 for pulling and handling my 2007 12k lbs and 40 ft long Designer fifthwheel?? The rating on both the new F-250 & F-350 is 16,000lbs for towing/pulling,BUT will my new F-250 be able to handle the 2,780 lbs hitch weight? The new F-250 has better suspension,trailer sway control,and more torque& HP---My old 2001 F-350 (11,500 gvwr package) handles it ok. Maybe I should order a new F-350 or keep my old 2001 F-350----Not sure any help appreciated! Thanks!

You can check the Ford Website for all of the capacities for trailering and towing. Here: http://www.ford.com/trucks/superduty/specifications/towing/ I did not see anything about hitch weights, but I did not look carefully around the pages on the Super Duty Trucks. Been a while since I ordered mine.

Racinghcr, if your F-250 squats a little more then you like, put a set of Firestone Air Bags on the rear of it.
The F-250 should be a good riding truck for everyday use.

Good tip WD40! I have a set of AIR RIDES on my current 2001 Ford F-350 SuperCab &.3 PSD. Perhaps the BEST addition I ever made to the F-350 for towing our 2007 Designer Fifthwheel. Put about 40 PSI in the rear bags and you ride level with no bottoming out carrying about 13 K pounds and 40 feet of fifthwheel behind you ! I think my old 2001 F-350 has one more leaf in the rear springs than the new F-250 on order. My 2001 was ordered with a camper package like my new one,but it was a 11.500 GVWR where the 2012 F-250 will be only 10,000 GVRW. No doubt the new 2012 will have more (400 hp and 800 lbs of torque!) than the old reliable 2001 7.3 PSD F-350. Also, the new 2012 will have trailer sway control and a six speed tranny------BUT even with the addition of the AIR BAGS on the new F-250----WILL IT HANDLE THE WEIGHT and LOAD of the older 2001??? The 2001 F-350 has pulled our 40 ft Designer fifthwheel to the Fla. Keys and back to Indiana 13 round trips getting about 13+ MPG and never a single issue.I know the 2012 6.7 PSD will have much more power, but It's scary thinking I may be getting a lesser capable truck for hauling and handling the weight!! PS: Do you know if there's any difference in the FRONT SPRINGS/Suspension (2 wheel drives) between an F-350 and F250?? Are the frames any stronger since 2001 ?Thanks for your time and help!

My hitch weight is 2361 on my toyhauler and with a set of air bags my 2011 250 I just bought, handles my toy hauler without breaking a good sweat even climbing over the steepest bridge in town. Sway control is sweet but you will have to get used to the brake controller. It is directly proportional to how hard you push the brake pedal. The one in my 02 either seemed to be full on or full off. Not very proportional. You are gonna love your new ride

Thanks Waynebudke for the encouraging 6.7 PSD F-250 info! I know that the main difference between the F-250 and F-350 is one less leaf in the rear springs and possibly a four vs two inch lift block under the rear springs. I am adding an Air Lift system like I used succesfully with my 2001 F-350. I think my new F-250 will ride level like my 2001 F-350 with my fifthwheel (2,500 hitch wt),and all the new power (400 hp vs 250+hp) and technology of Sway Control,Electronic rear end, six-speed Auto.etc will tow at least as good. Any more info on the new Ford Brake Controller?? Is it easy to set? THANKS Again,and Keep me updated as we will be towing to Fla after Christmas and will be getting the new F-250 ready during the next few months.
