Hi,

What kind of mileage can I expect out of my diesel without major repairs? What about mileage overall? Is this a fairly long lasting engine or not as much as some of the others like cummins.

Thanks
Jeff

There are a few here that have over 180,000 miles and I think one that has turned 200,000 miles. That is up there with the 7.3, but we don't know how long the motor will last. Your guess is as good as anyone elses.

Mine went about 200k of pulling (before I owned it) and extended oil change intervals (9000 miles) before it lost a camshaft lobe. Not too bad considering the abuse. I have heard of a few guys pushing 400K (yes a few).
So take care of it and you should be fine...

i just finished a TWO day 2200 mile "run" towing 5000lbs i scored 15mpg
w/ the trailer empty and 14 w/ a car on the trailer...and i had the cruise
set at 80.

i never saw coolant temps higher than 206 and my oil temps were
ALWAYS w/in 20degrees (or less) of my coolant temps.

i didnt PUKE a DROP ONE of COOLANT...my fluid levels are the same
as when i left for my "express" trip....pulling the mountains around
asheville & greenville nc i was impressed w/ the performance...passing
cars and trucks (and even a motorcycle).

i NEVER saw egt temps above 1200*...and that was on a blast up the
mountain...the highest temps ive EVER seen previously were about 1100*
(and no i dont baby my throttle...i run it !)

my tranny temps never exceeded 180* (and that was only in stop and
go local traffic)...towing & moving i never exceeded 165* on my tranny.

the truck performed FLAWLESSLY...650miles to a tank (w/ the empty
18' trailer) and 600mi to the tank w/ the 3400lb car loaded (i generally
get 700-750mi per tank on the interstate 75-80mph)
