I have a 2005 6.0. Every once in a while pulling a trailer the truck will overboost on a hill and start coughing. It will only happen for a short time and then everything seems fine. Ford has tried many things to fix it, but never seems able to. The truck only has 19000 on it, but it has been happening since day 1. Anybody else having or had this problem?

Thanks

if i had to bet id say its egr valve related...only happens under load,
(erratic boost) under steady/even throttle, and your egts are probably
up a bit.

the egr valve is not positioning properly and commanding the vgt
to change (opening and closing) improperly (causing the truck to "buck")

you probably are also seeing some "black" smoke/puffing during this
bucking.

scan it for codes to confirm.

you could trouble shoot this using the following method...

1) truck off (key off)
2) unplug egr valve
3) start truck & drive (see if problems go away)

the egr VALVE, and its electrical connector, can be located in
photo 18 below -->

YOU could inspect the valve for SOOT build up and clean it
by reading the links below
