I took off my cat when I got my 4" exhaust. I kept it just in case but where I live the chance that inspections will return, and if they return how thorough they will be, is low.

I have often wondered how much good is negated when these emission controls fail. I have feeling it is significant. Think about it, when these things became faulty many of them can be that way for a while before they become problematic enough for us to notice. Most of the components on modern vehicles fail over time instead of all at once which would prompt us to address the issues immediately.

I just had my Calif inspection and the guy looked at everything, using a manual to make sure it was all there and proper. The whole smog deal took 1 thirty minutes. They hooked up a scanner and looked at that, for codes.

Why did you have to have an inspection Dave?

Look on your registration for the notice of a smog check. Every two years here in California. Believe me, I would NOT have done it if I didn't have to.
