We have this problem on the trucks at work. The problem is with the electronic actuator,it is not strong enough to disengage the transfer case. The pressure on the drive train between the front and rear has to equallize,so the actuator can disengage it.4 lo is realy hard.I have had to ease forward about 1 or 2 miles pr hr and slam on the brakes and throw the trans in neutral. It usually pops right out.Personaly I prefer the good ole lever.

Check the rolling diameter of your tires to ensure front & rear are the same. A lot of folks will blindly put the same pressure in front and rear. Seldom are the front & rear axle weights the same. So either the front or rear tires will be compressed more, changing the rolling diameter and causing front to rear driveline binding.

What I do is measure the distance between the edge of the rim and the concrete garage floor on all four tires. Then adjust the pressure in all the tires (maintaining an adequate amount in each) to where all the rim to floor distances are the same. This will equalize the rolling diameter and minimize front to rear driveline binding.

i have rear suspension airbags and i have them pretty full with air, wich as we all know jacks up the rear end. could this be causing the binding?

No

It doesn't make any difference how high your rear bumper is in the air.

You have to get all the tires the same size around. Other wise it's like running a 16" tire on the back and 15" on the front or visa versa.

Kent is 100% correct..

first thing, check the rolling diameter of the tires.

then check the transmission range switch (we used to call it a neutral safety switch)

they're common to fail
