My 4 wheel drive went out on me(2000 f250 superduty diesel) so thru troubleshooting I have done the following replaced my transfer case motor, taken my electronic dashboard switch apart, taken the truck to the local elec. auto specialist to the tune of $250 where they said my transfer case motor was bad so I had it replaced (again) they put in a new wiring harness and said one of my large fuses? relay was bad I still have the relay didnt appear any were bad...none of this has worked (I can put it in 4x4 by turning the knob with a wrench, the knob that sticks out where the transfer case motor mounts) when I hooked up the transfer case motor it was stuck in 4x4 and when I turned the dash switch nothing happened. The only thing I have not done was replace the dash switch. Any suggestions I sure would like to get this fixed its hunting season!! Thanks

sounds to me like you have a vaccum leak issue. my guess is the transfer case motor is fine. Check the vaccum lines going to each hub and inspect them for any cracks/kinks.

there is the relay on the passenger side fender that controls the vacuum to the hubs. have you check the connector on that? the hoses from there down?

vacuume only operates the front hubs. It does not work the motor. Iff you have it in 2wd and hubs unlocked you should be able to reach under and spin the front driveshaft. If you flip the switch on the dash, even with vacuume issues, the front shaft should not spin anymore cause the transfercase should lock in 4wd. If hubs wont lock its vacuume.(Or get out and do it manually.) If you can turn the transfer case motor shaft(piece the tc motor covers) with a 9/16 wrench and then the front drive shaft locks its either the motor or the switch.

So far

I can get it into 4x4 by turning the knob with a wrench I just cant get the trans case motor to operate. Another thing I did was hook up the motor to the plug-ins but didnt mount it ,then I turned the switch but the motor failed to operate. Everything is new but my switch. If it is the switch I have searched the internet but cant find one? Any web sites out there you recommend.

your reply is not clear- what do you get to work with a wrench, the hubs or the transfer case motor.

that switch would probably be dealer only or somewhere like powerstrokeshop.com. that or a junk yard.

update on 4x4 not working

Well been working nites so finally got back to it. I think I have done about it all. Took the hubs apart cleaned them put new o-rings and greased them (per Guzzlers directions) inspected the vacuum lines made sure they were in good condition this and all that I have been advised to do. When I took it to our local "reputable elec. man" he had said I had a bad relay( in addition to a list of other things that he said was fixed) I did the pull one out at a time and ruled out the ones under the hood. Is there a electricial componant I might be missing I sure think its electricial. The only thing I have not done is the switch on the dash so unless there no other suggestions Im going to order me a switch $50 what the heck. I sure thank you guys for all the help. marko Go Loggers!!
