I have a 2000 F350 SRW and just recently my 4X4 light (when in 2WD)comes on when I start it up and drive it for a few miles. Then it goes out with out switching the ESOF. I have added the steel braided vacuum lines and it still happens, also after the light comes on (and sometimes before it does) it won't switch into 4WD. What could anyone suggest. Vacuum pump is running, but does it shut off after getting enough vacuum to the supply canister, because mine does? :dunno

It was doing this before I added the lines, that was the reason I added them. I read that when the defroster came on (like mine was doing while the 4X4 light was switching off and on) the most likely reason was the lines for the front hubs. After I switched the lines it no longer goes to defrost but the 4X4 still doesn't work. Any ideas on what I could check?

It might not be vaccuum related. My 4x4 light comes on at times and I only have a 2WD :dunno I'm thinking mine is something electrical in nature. Could be the same problem.

Well after checking all the vacuum lines and whatever I could check I finally broke down and took it to the dealership.....ugh.....but they called today and said that it had 7 codes for 4X4 reading...not good I thought..but they said that the wiring harness going to the transfer case looked like it had been in a bind and that it was shorting out causing the problem. Whether it really was or not is the answer. They didn't change anything eletrical (YET). And that I could pick it up tomorrow. We'll see if that does it. But on the other hand, I get to yell at another dealership that nickle and dimed me for leaks (some I felt they created) for taking my transmission in and out 3 times and removing the transfer case 2 times in addition.......hhhhmmmmm.....maybe they created the problem......we'll see.
