All of my friends that have.... have failed. Either immediately or only a few hundred miles later. Its like a hair cut. You just cant get any of it wrong. And your going to have to practice many times before getting all of it right. :dunno

That and buy all of the special tools. I don't have a left handed dumofletchy and I don't want to spend the $$$ to get one.

Rebuilding a tranny isn't that hard. Most failures after a rebuild are from not installing the parts correctly. Other failures come from debris, poor quality or out of tolerance parts.

Best thing to do is pick up a copy of the ATSG manual. Read it thoroughly.
This will help in rebuilding the tranny. You need to know about stack clearances, air test ect.;tu

Be sure to clean the case well. You want no dirt debris or any other crap in the case. De bur any surface where the steels contact the case. Check all parts to be reused for excessive wear. Use new bearing and bushings. ;tu

Most important. When using aftermarket frictions and steels, use the specs provided. If you use the stock Ford spec, good chance the tranny will fail.

Tools, they can be found on evilbay or made in your garage:sweet.

The only special tool you will need to break down a tranny is a slide hammer.
You will need it to pull the pump.

Screwdrivers will pop the snap rings.

To put it back together you will need more special tools.
