Recently, down here in PC beach I pulled a Chevy out of the sand. he was stuck up to the frame and was not moving anywhere. I pulled up behind him and hooked the tow strap up to the hook on the front. I put the truck in neutral and then switched to 4 low and put the truck in reverse. I rolled back a foot and I felt it engage. Well I barely touched the pedal and his truck came out with ease.

When I went to put it back in 2WD it made a awful grinding noise. I put it in neutral and then in 4 hi and then in reverse. Rolled back and then went to 2WD. This seemed to be the way. Anyone else have grind issues?

would do that on occassion ifn I didn't get the shift just perfect....it's a 6spd. I don't think I ever had occassion to try the Fords. Recall that issue with other 4X4s I've had. Seemed they all got better with practice.

i would say it is normal considering i have done it on at least 2 occasions.

it sounds like you are just grinding the teeth away right...
in my expert opinion:roflmao i just did not wait long enough for the internal shift to take place and changed gears too quick....i wouldn't worry about it.
