Pretty much decided on going with the ever popular MBRP 4 inch turbo back. I have swapped out full exhaust systems on a number of vehicles but have a few questions on this system.

1. Is it possible to remove the stock downpipe with out cutting it? I mean if the truck is on the ground and you do not remove the tranny crossmember.

2. Will the muffler back come out with the truck on the ground without cutting?

Looking at the system I see having to make two cuts to get the system out. One cut on the bottom of the down pipe before it curves back and one just aft of the muffler. If it ever were to go back in a few simple welds would seal her back up again.

1) YES/NO: it is possible on the ground, but youll have to at least drop
the one side of the cross member...i used a floor jack to support the trans,
but i cant recall if i only had to drop one side or the entire cross member.

2) Yes, but not on the ground....youll need height to get the plumbing
(bends) over and past the axle. (i cut mine...there are no warrenty issues
w/ cat-back exhausts...and ive had my truck in a couple times w/ the
turbo-back, cat in place, MBRP...no one ever said a word about it)

Well just got off the phone with DPPI. They seem to have the best prices on MBRP exhaust. A few dollars saved is a few dollars.

Anyway the 304 looks great but I am not sure I really need to spend the extra 300 on the bling.

Aluminized sounds like it will not be a good idea since I live on the coast and plan on moving back to Maine. It's looking like I am going with the 409 SS. It should last a while. Pictures of install coming soon.

Mark @ DPPI is a great guy...he wont be beat on
the price.

i look at it this way...the truck already has stainless on it...why
go backwards...i went w/ the T-409 it held up well for the year it
was on (when i lived in virginia)...and if you really want to...you
CAN clean it up VERY well w/ a green 3M scotchbrite pad...

you can polish it to probably as good a finish as the 304, but i say
why...what EVER you do though dont use that 3m pad on
the polished tip (you did go w/ a double wall 5inch tip didnt you ;)

Yup... going with the 5 inch double wall tip. Gotta run by Sears or somewhere to get a pipe cutter. Gonna do the swap in the driveway. I hope I can get that down pipe on by myself. Other then that shouldn't need any help.

Pictures to come.

Still hunting for a good set of pillar gauges and mount. Kind of leary of pulling the manifold for the EGT probe.

a sawsall or hacksaw will work fine ;)
the ONLY way to get GOOD EGT's is at the manifold, PRE TURBO.

I was worried about it too...i ran a post egt probe early on...i put
it in the down pipe...it worked but not like pre turbo, and pre turbo
doesnt give you the ablity to compare your readings to others.

consider that even AIRPLANES run the props in the manifolds and
EVERY BIG TRUCK out there has it PRETURBO...good enough for
those guys good enough for me.

when i installed my mbrp system i did away w/ the post turbo probe
and put it in the manifold...i havent looked back since and i havent
had any problems...and there are plenty here w/ MORE miles that have
never had an issue.

GO PRE TURBO, in the drivers side manifold, near the back of the
manifold (i put mine right @ the elbow/turn)...drill slow and start small,
youll be fine !

You don't need to remove it, just drill it with the motor running, any small shavings that might fall UP!!! will blow right out the tail pipe. The turbo is not as fragile as some believe! Really, I have seen some suck bolts right thru with NO damage!!! Drill tap and be done, or drill and clamp on the up pipe...

fly boy,

Pyro in the manifold is easy don't worry go slow and take your time and you'll be fine. Get that exhaust on and then take some time to decide what style of gauges you want and like the "look" of. Use our site if you want we have all the Auto Meter, DiPricol's and Isspro's as well as all the mounts and accessories like harnesses and color matched paints etc.

There are couple of pictures of mine on my webshots link and a couple of sound clips on the other link. I forgot to put a couple of items on my system when I installed.

Installation was pretty easy, just remember to spay some lube on the rubber hangers, it will make taking them off easier.
