ball joints seem easy enuff but the play is deffinitly coming from thoes "king-pin" things. having a hard time finding them on-line too.

any help is totally aprecheated, so thanks in advance and no i dont have spell checker.

run away

yer gonna need a kingpin press, a torch with a LARGE rosebud, a drilling hammer, a good breakfast, a piece of bar stock, ear plugs, couple of sandwiches for lunch, heavy gloves, and some mechanics' reamers... and about two days...

-edit-

wait a second... a '99 with KINGPINS???? That's got to be a ball joint front end..

O.K. so its called a ball joint. not quite the first thing that comes to mind when i think of a ball joint. but anyways it just the upper ones. the spindels have a bolt to thighted them but the lower looks to be presed into the I beams. can i get them out with a press from habor freight or is this like a blow-torch bench press thing or I could only amagine. please help....

as far as I can remember, if it's a ball joint truck, both of the ball joints are pressed into the knuckle...

rent a press from a rental place...

sooooo true to my teams name, I replaced just the lower ball joint knowing that the upper ball joint should be replaced too. now a few months later the upper ball joint needs to come out. my question is anyone replaced just the upper ball joint with out having to remove the lower ball joint???? thanks for any help guys.

I can't remember if you have to pull the upper to replace the lower, or if you have to pull the lower to replace the upper... I think it's pull the upper to replace the lower...

I guess I'd buy all 4 and let your ball joint press dictate whether you are taking two back to the parts store or not..

well I tryed with my DIY ball joint press and there was no way. I remember when I did the lower I had to buy a torch and sit there for like 10 min heating that thing up till it finaly spit it out but it did not seen as bad as the upper. so I had to bring it to the local jerks to charge me $50 bucks for 5 min of work. but they had a drake press (the second thing I will buy after I buy a house) and they had to take out the lower ball joint to stick a peice of pipe through the hole to get the upper out, and then stuck the lower back in. Then when I brought it home I pressed in the upper my self. yeah long story short when doing a upper or a lower do both.:thumbs
