ALL diesel engine equipped trucks built after 1-1-2007 have a Diesel Particulate Filter. When the computer senses the filter is restricted due to Diesel Particulates, it starts the regeneration process by adding fuel to the system to burn up the particulates. This is the readers digest explanation, but you get the idea. This is one of the reasons all the newer trucks get such horrible mileage.
