I have a 2005 F-250 Diesel rig and I am on my 4th turbo. I am not hard on the truck but was wondering if anyone had any ideas what might be causing the turbos to go. I did have an edge in for a short while before my garage went crazy. Two of the turbos have failed after the Edge was removed

There is absolutely something on that truck that is causing these failures. Is it still under warranty? I would take it to a dealer and INSIST that they correct it. At this rate, you are changing turbos more frequently than some people change air filters...

Your turbo/year ratio is 1:1. You shouldn't have much difficulty getting the dealer to acknowledge that, and do something about it.

Does your truck sit a lot? Or idle a lot? There are a quite a few reasons for turbo's to go bad. I'm on my 5th turbo. My truck sits a lot, and the vanes rust closed. Has your dealer given you a reason or explanation as to why your particular truck keeps going thru turbo's?

Sitting and idling for extended periods isnt good for the turbo, nor is easy foot driving. These things like to have the cobs blown outta them every now and again. Not saying drive it like Mario Andretti, but when you are getting on the freeway go ahead and pin the throttle until you are up to speed.

I have had 4 turbos replaced on my 05X. I only have 22k miles on her.

Rusting of the variable vanes is the biggest problem. Dealer told me to drive her at least once a week and get on her hard to blow all the crap out. I have been doing this for 8 months now and zero problems.

Drive it like you stole it! :)

Mike,
Love it dude. There is a pattern setting up. I have heard now from three guys similiar advice so I am going to be heeding that advice and seeing what I can do to make certain the truck gets used frequently enough.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Jeff
