I bought this truck new in 02 f-350 automatic trans 4x4 35inch tires 4inch exhaust k&n air filter kit to replace stock one Motorvation chip bought from Summit maybe a 30HP iso pro exhaust temp gauge. I have always towed a fifth wheel trailer but have upgraded three times each time to heavier trailer problem has increased each time but the new trailer has put it over the top. Since it was new evertime I have towed up this same hill a 9% grader 2miles long no breaks the fan belt has made lots of noise I have always thouhght it would burn up. Sounds like the fan comes on then off when the belt is slipping but never created a problem as far as water temp. I took to the dealer they said that ford was aware of the problem and would contact when they came up with a solution 5 years later still no news the dealer just put a smaller belt on and sent me out the door. As I said each trailer I have bought has been heavier my new trailer is a 38ft toyhauler GVWR is 17,000 now my water temp go up to the red the A/C stops blowing cold air the exhaust temp is @ 1200-1250 and the belt is making more noise than ever but as soon as I go down the backside of the hill the temp gose down. I have went to Napa and bought an extreme duty belt looks like it should cure the problem put it on I heard the fan come on very strong for the very first time sounded like a airplane in the cab in the smaller hills but when I came to the big hill I never heard the fan come on very strong I just could hear a small roar I'm in 1st gear no more than 2800-3000rpm's maybe 1/2 throttle I think the truck could take the hill in 2nd but I'm trying to take an easy with it since the cooling problems are thier again the truck got hot acourding to the idiot gauge. I never smelt anti freeze but the A/C stop blowing cold air. I know that my post is very long but I'm despertly looking for some advise. I'm not sure if I nead to buy a new fan clutch I have purchased a new belt tensioner but have not installed it not sure if this is the problem.
