Im new into the ford diesels ive always owned cummins. Just went to the PSD when i saw everything my buddy was doing with his so i dont know these motors. At first when I got the truck it wouldn't run over 40-45 mph. Filled it up with diesel and it went to running higher speeds. But it has a bad shake and shutter at anything below 1500 RPM. I checked the UVCH they seemed to be plugged in fine to me. It still has the bad miss at anything under 1500 above that rpm it seems to clear up? Please help with this problem I don't know if it's the injectors? Or something wrong with the rings? Also can someone explain injector cups?

Also the other problem it has is it overheats real bad and when it does it starts building up pressure on the cooling system. It is building up steam in the resisivor bottle and it's cracking every bottle I put on it. I'm running out of money replacing these bottles. I replaced the thermostat and it's still doing it. Someone anyone had the same problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks god bless

1. welcome to sdd.

2. do you have access to a scanner, something more sophisticated than the $20 at autozone. and their scanners dont work on our trucks.

you are looking for codes from ther pcm to diagnose.

3. start simple- check fuel filter.

4. check your tubo piping boots.

5. can you do a combustion gas test on the coolant?

6. check the water pump for weeping in the hole under the shaft support boss. if your water pump impeller is not turning, you will not be moving water.

7.3's RARELY have trouble with head gaskets and over pressurizing, its almost unheard of unless you have crazy modded the truck.

so step by step, start from the beginning to trouble shoot.

the UVCH have connections under the valve cover too that can go bad. scanning for codes will tell you which injector is flaking out. you can test out each pin of the connector, but it can be a pain.

No sir I haven't been able to find anyone with a programmer to run it for me. I am a mechanic so I get most of the stuff your saying. But how do I do a "combustion gas test"?

a scanner is not a programmer. a scanner plugs into the OBD2 port on the truck and reads the PCM. different things all together.

combustion test gas kit uses fluid to change color in the presence of exhaust gasses in the coolant with the truck running. i can not explain it to you. google it or talk to the guys from like napa and read the instructions of the kit they sell.

is there a chip on this truck? did you put one on it? are you sure that there is not one on there already? read the wiki pages on chip install to see where/how its installed.

Yes sir I know a programmer and scanner are different. I can't find one around me. I'll have to go get one of those kits. I had a 80hp superchip on it but I took it off right when I got the truck and used a bully dog programmer but I took it off also when it started doing all this.
