1999/2000 2nd question

Thanks for the anwsering my last post on what the differences are between a early 99 and a later. It looks like what I need is a later 99 or up because of my intended mods.

Question #2 Is there a serial number break on the engine?
That would allow me to know the difference. Keep in mind that I am new to the PSD and recovering from the CTD Bombing addiction. I've came home to my roots and am going back to the blue oval. Love them diesels. I know that in short order I will probably be able to identify the early and late right off by looking.......But for now came somebody chime in here and advise on visual difference or serial break on engine, etc. I know it was mentioned about the y-pipe, anyone have pictures and is that a good indicator.???
