I took my 05 crew cab today for a service, and Im pretty new to the diesel world, so I took it to a local shop to have it serviced. The guy doing the work brought the air filter tome and said it needed replaced, since it was pretty dirty. Another guy working there noticed the filter, and said he had never seen a filter like that on a 6.0! He said all that he had seen are tall oval shaped canister type filters on the 6.0 powerstrokes,, and that they cost almost $100! The filter in my truck was a Fram layered paper filter looking very similar to the one I had in my 5.4, or maybe a 7.3 powerstroke, but about 4 inches thick. Has anyone else got a filter like this one, I tried to find a filter for it online, and the only ones I can find for an 05 with a 6.0 are the large oval canister style, and I cant find anywhere that there was a different filter available. Help me out here,, what is it, and why is it different? Thanks for your help.

Hey, thanks,, I did some more checking on it, and pulled it out to check numbers. I looked up the factory number and searched it, and its nothing like mine. So as I was putting it back in, I noticed a name on the air box lid.. it says Visteon on the lid... I searched it, and found it to ba an aftermarket induction, but cant find much info on it at all, cant buy it from anywhere from what I can tell,, and cant find replacements. Supposed to be some great thing that lasts for 150,000 miles with great filtration along with reducing noise levels.. Anyone ever hear of them, or know anything about them? Im pretty lost about it, and dont know what to do with it.. Suggestions?

I may be wrong but I believe Visteon used to be the in-house parts supplier owned by Ford similar to what Delphi was to GM. :dunno

Thanks guys. So what now, how do I find out if the truck came from the factory with this induction kit? I cant find anywhere what filter to put in as a replacement, or if this is even a good setup to run on my truck. From the sounds if it, it sounds as if the kit may have been installed at the factory,, and it definitely looks factory,, very similar to the setup on my 03 gasser with a 5.4 but it still had the filter gauge on the back like other 6.0 diesels..
