02 F350 7.3L Odometer inop

Odometer became intermittent, now completely inop. Overhead trip computer works fine. Possible related, engine momentarily shutdown on highway while in the rain. Then yesterday, engine completely shut down when brakes applied. Started back up, but ......

You might have water in the computer. Leaking from you windshield. I don't know about the speedometer. You could possibly have a CPS going bad also.

where is the computer located?

Black plastic cover over metal box behind e-brake. Feeds through firewall and connector with 10mm bolt connects harness from engine side.

It's easy to check.

1) disconnect both negative cables

2) Remove the two small screws under dash that bolt the plastic cover to to e-brake bracket

3) loosen 10mm bolt one engine side.

4) remove ecm and check for moisture on pins and on harness.

Haven't found any loose connectors or corrosion yet. Checked codes and got a P0603 Powertrain Control Module Keep Alive Memory Error. Read a couple of threads that suggest a possible bad relay that may cause this and that may harm a replacement PCM. Any one had similar problems? Any ideas?

P0603 is common in trucks with chips or tuners. Do you have a chip or tuner? This code gets thrown when you remove the factory program and install tuning. It's nothing to be concerned about.

No Chips or Tuning. Quit again today turning into neighborhood (been dry for days). But restarted ok. CPS on order.
