Hi all, I have a F350 with an Evolution "tow" program that wont start. Truck had been running fine before, sat for three weeks, went to fire her up - nothing. Pulled codes that show P0470, P0478 and P1212.

A friend suggests it might me CPS, but not sure if I start there or the Injection control? Oil levels on stick and in hpop look fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike

check your batteries.

does your tach move when you crank?

status of fuel and fuel filters?

do you get dash lights on key on? -> check your fuses under the hood in power dist. block.

Both batteries are new as of early fall 10' with a rebuilt starter. The only other fix I've done was new GPR before the bat. & starter.

Fuel was topped off before I had parked her and I do use an anti-gel additive.
I'll have to check the filter tho.

Tried to start her again - Tach does not move during crank. Is this a sign of something? I do have a problem with a "door ajar" leaving the courtesy lights on for three minutes now and again.

As for the fuses, are they the two small black boxes located driver's side near break cylinder? Mine are taped closed. I can easily get to them and check if they are the problem.

Thanks for answering.

batteries can and do go bad. because they are 'new' does not mean that they are good.

http://www.superdutydiesel.com/foru...e-drivetrain/96-talk-about-7-3l-cps-here.html

"On 2001 and older trucks, you can use the TACH needle to troubleshoot a CPS failure. During a long, extended crank with no start, the TACH needle should bounce ever so slightly. Maybe 100 RPM or so. If you have an AIC (Ford Automatic Idle Controller, or APCM) installed, the digital display should also display a low RPM. If you get NO NEEDLE MOVEMENT, and/or NO AIC RPM DISPLAY, its very likely you have a failed CPS. Again, this trick does NOT WORK on 2002 and newer trucks with the factory transmission temp gauge."

well, it is not the CPS. Just got done putting a new one in and same crank-no-start result. I don't have a battery tester, I think my Bro-in-law does, I'll have to give that a try.

I'm going to change the fuel filter later to see if I had some watery diesel fuel.
I should be able to see the fuel/water separated in a jar, correct?

Here's to hoping I solve this,

Mike
