When your done and need the power of a diesel again then you can look for what you want. Should be some great deals on 6.0s and take care of the EGR/oil cooler issues and you're golden. Shouldn't brake the bank either.

Hopefully by the time I'm ready for my next upgrade, I'll have a stable enough job to purchase and build a 6.7

Just so that I don't have to start another thread regarding a potential trade, I'd like to hear yalls opinion on this latest offer. I drove an hour today to go look at a 2006 F-150 Supercrew 139" WB King Ranch 4x4. The truck has factory suspension, wheels, tires, exhaust, and even radio. Might not be as much of an eye catcher as mine, but still a very nice looking truck. It has 148k miles, with only a couple thousand on a new transmission with papers. Drove the truck and felt like I was in a Lexus. The tires are new Bridgestone HT's and felt great. Steering was a little looser than what I felt it should've been, but nothing compared to mine, and it still handled very well. The 5.4l 3v didn't feel quite as peppy as I thought it was going to, but then again, it was significantly quicker than my previous 2v. The brake pedal was also kind of odd, making a slight squishing sound while braking. Brakes were very responsive though and it had new pads and rotors. When I say this truck was near flawless, I mean it. Interior was mint, with the exception of some wear on the radio buttons, and all of the power options worked (power folding mirrors, sliding rear window, heated seats, etc). It also had a small scratch in the front bumper but nothing significant at all.

Here's the kicker...
The owner test drove my truck and was very difficult to read. He commented on the loose steering (probably needs gearbox, but I don't care to hassle with it) and complained of an "unresponsive turbo"??? That turbo with the wicked wheel was much more responsive than my buddies 02 stock turbo, so he's probably not thinking straight (lol). My truck has a very significant amount of rust, even rust that I was unaware of. The cab corners and doors have been fixed and repainted. But the bed is totally shot. Fender wells are gone, and the lip around the fender is also gone, covered up with flares. So a new bed is the only way to go, and at 1500 dollars, that's not worth it to me. My truck also has cloth interior with normal cosmetic wear and tear. It has brand new tires, ball joints, hubs, bearings, axle shaft, brake rotors, calipers, pads, 4WD vacuum seals, shocks, 07 headlights, grille, and bumper, 2010 tailgate with wrap, and 2010 taillights. Not to mention the touchscreen radio with a backup camera.

So this is what it comes down to:
His truck is newer, more practical, and probably makes way more sense for me. It's currently valued at 11,800 on KBB. My truck on the other hand is currently valued at around 8,000, maybe 9 at best. Depreciation and longevity is what matters most to me right now. In 5 years, my truck will still be worth 8 or 9k, and his will be worth the same and continue to decrease with age and mileage. It'll also have a 3v Triton motor, which gets sketchy above 200k miles. He wants my truck and $1000 cash on top. I'm hoping yall will share your input and opinions on this. The more I've thought about it, the more a gas truck makes sense for right now, and if I'm going to trade diesel for gas, I want a loaded 4 door.

Value wise that sounds pretty good. Unless his has some hidden gremlins. I know nothing about the F150s so someone else here should weigh in. On the surface it sounds pretty good.

The 5.4 3v motors are known for cam phasers going bad, causing timing chain failures, as well as warping exhaust manifolds. Aside from that, the motors are solid, and upon initial inspection, I noticed nothing mechanically wrong with it. No noises whatsoever

Can you have a mechanic good with these check it out?
Being so far from me, I'm not familiar with any mechanics down there. I've had a couple 5.4s and none of them were as clean or quiet as this one, so I'm hoping that's a good sign
