Howdy all,
Got a phone call from this fellow named Jeremy, a buddy of his found my number off of a forum somewhere. Anyway, he's been to the dealership and after having the following stuff replaced the truck is still not running right:
From the dealership:
IPR, HPOP, Low pressure oil pump, High pressure injector pump, and a new oil reservoir.

The truck will start up but he will have to mash down to keep it running. Also oil reservoir doesn't stay full, it empties somehow. No oil in the coolant, the oil stays clean, truck leaks some oil, but does not have a huge oil leak. The dealership said something about possibly needing a new "front cover".
The dealership wants to charge him an additional 500.00 to do further diagnosing on it.

The truck has an Edge Evolution on it. I told Jeremy to check for codes that the truck might be throwing and get back to me and I will post them here. I also gave him this web address so he could post as well.

Jeremy is in Roanoke Tx if anyone is close by that might be willing to help. I have his number, and if it's ok with him, I'll PM it to someone who might be able to help him. I am willing to go over there and help out as well but for right now this sounds a bit above my head.
I know this fella would greatly appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Craig

Just idling?? Boy there sure are alot of chipped trucks here and no one is running out of oil idling and not moving

A scan tool will let you know the High pressure oil pressure at idle, sounds like something isn't right there. Don't quote me, but I believe it should be around 500 psi or so.

Would it be a fuel related issue? Maybe as simple as the fuel pick up in the tank has become clogged. My work truck had that happen and the ford techs took about 30 days and several attempts of other warranty fix items to correct the problem before they even attempted to look at the tank pickup. After they replaced that it has been good to go. Just a thought to think about.

A simple fuel pressure check could rule that out though, one would think that they would have done that, but who knows.

Either I don't know the whole story or this dealership does not have a clue what they are doing. There is no way they are knowledgeable on the 7.3's and throw that many parts at it without fixing the problem.

Just my .02cents worth.

As stated earlier, check fuel pressure. I would also check HPO pressure. whould have 500-800 at idle psi on each side(if I remember right). Don't forget to remove HX hose if installed. If an injector is stuck, one side will not have low (if any) pressure on the guage. Both truck that I have seen do this would not start at all or would start and stall out.

Could a faulty injector be the cause of the problem? Possibly explaining the oil loss?

A leaking injector o-ring would drain the HPO rails in the heads, not the reservoir.

New front cover will prolly fix it since the rest of the oil system has been replaced. The reservoir draining is the root of his issues IMO.
