    Turbo Sock for 6.0???

In certain engineered cases that sock will work, what it does is decrease the exhaust gas from cooling as much, which keeps its velocity up. Basically makes the turbo more efficient. The downside is it will wear out the turbo faster as that turbo will be running very hot!!!. Conventional oil...

    Upgrade

upgrades The exhaust and say, intercooler upgrades will help the 6.0 breathe better, but I would stay stock on the intake. The reason to stay stock on the intake is it is the best filter out there, and flows well enough to support moderate HP increases, while protecting the turbo and the...

    Let it run or not?

If you've never pulled the EGR valve, it might be a good idea, so you can set a baseline. With your miles/hourmeter of 38, I'll bet your EGR is in decent shape if you've been running ULSD, but it would'nt hurt to take a look. If it is wet in there you may have a leaking EGR cooler, and you...

    Let it run or not?

Leave it run? The newer EGR diesels shouldn't idle excessively, you end up coking up the EGR cooler and valve, turbo, and contaminating the oil. Ford looks at the engine hourmeter and mileage on the diesels to determine if they have been idling excessively. Ford recognizes 33 miles per...

    6.0 Transmission power hold?

Stock transmission power I remember reading about the torque converter being built for about 750 foot pounds of torque maximum. Don't get too concerned about HP, it is just a mathematical equation using torque and RPM. Torque is what kills components. I would guess that if the TC is rated...

    Let it run or not?

idle or shut down? I think you have to keep in mind the scenario he was giving - go in for a bag of chips and out - 5 minutes. If the engine is fully warmed up or hot - I would let it idle, if we are only talking 5 minutes. I would think of this as more of cool down, good for the turbo and...

    You guys jacked my thread.

    6.0 POW and no power

Disconnect the IC at both ends, block one off and seal up an air line to the other, you'll hear the leak, sounds like you blew the end off the intercooler.

    white smoke at take off

Have you ever run her without the SCT (with the blockoff)? I was wondering if the blockoff would set a code, without the SCT in the loop.

    white smoke at take off

White smoke White smoke is usually due to coolant in the exhaust stream - ie steam. It may be a small leak right now, and not much coolant accumulates in the intake until it has been sitting a while. You can pull the EGR valve and see if it is shiny (wet). sometimes if the coolant system is...

    photos What's In Your Turbo?

Hey Bama - that turbo doesn't look too badly contaminated from rust or soot. I'm not sure of the vgt solenoid - if its just the picture or not, but the O rings look "pinched" near the oil holes, probably just the lighting or something. I've seen turbos in a lot worse condition.

    Mad Jack

Dane; I just finished a holiday tow in the Canadian Rockies. I am running 15W-40 premium amsoil. I was towing a 28' bumper pull, and a full load of family and camping stuff. The outside air temp was 80 degrees plus, with several 10%+ climbs. These were not short climbs, very long. I kept...

    Question tuner suggestions

All the aftermarket intake guys claim more HP and mpg - but try and get them to show it to you - all snakeoil. Banks is one that actually shows they flow more cooler air, and they have the R&D to back it up. For me the last word is how they measure up in the filtering department - and the...

    Stolen by-pass oil filter

Bypass filter stolen Check out the net, there are lots of individual parts on sale, but usually the whole kit is cheaper than the sum of the parts, and lets face it - basically the whole kit was stolen.

Question Changing the Fuel Filters on 6.0

Fuel Filters and MPG Why change your filters at 30K?. That's way too long, if you start to get low fuel pressure to the injectors because the filters are clogging up, you'll kill your injectors fast. Clean oil and clean fuel is the best way to get reliability out of the 6.0.

    Help Needed High oil temp

Oil temp If you have digital info on the temps - scantool etc, check coolant temp against oil temp. If the oil temp is 25 degrees or more warmer than coolant temp, you have a plugged oil cooler.

to buy or not to buy

Bigpig 7500 miles on an 04? Thats either a real creampuff or someone has been fooling with the mileage. Check out the Oasis as Dave suggested, it will give you an honest picture of her past. The 6.0 is a great engine - stick to the maintenance and don't mod it up if you don't want any...

    best gauges

Gauges You might want to check out the Edge insight. It is not the typical gauge, it plugs into the OBDS2 and you can display up to 7 of the parameters. It also has a pyrometer plug in for EGT. You can display more info than a few gauges can, and cheaper, and easier to install.

Help Needed I'm stumped here guys. Could I get some input?

Eubee New parts are lots of fun. Everyone that has a scantool should take a look at the oil temp and coolant temp when warmed up, if there is more than a 25 degree spread, there is a blocked oil cooler. Good luck with your buildup.

    Yellow/Green Diesel?

Trapper77 Better be careful Trapper. Once you change all your filters, both the frame and the engine, take a close look at them. From what you have said, you haven't seen both filters yet, so you really don't know if the water separator did work. With that much crap in your tank, you'll be...

Help Needed I'm stumped here guys. Could I get some input?

Eubee Sounds like you've been busy. The oil logs you refer to are the oil manifolds? Just make sure you use new seals and be careful or you are in for a bunch of hp oil leaks! I'd be inclined to go for a new oil cooler, if it's that plugged its going to be hard to say how much efficiency...

Help Needed I'm stumped here guys. Could I get some input?

Eubee I'll assume the screen is the one from under the oil cooler. This screen strains the oil before it goes to the HP pump, and the valley it sits in is the hp pump reservoir. How come the screen is missing a panel??? I'm hoping you did that and you have it, otherwise it went through the...

    Retractable Air Hose Reel Installation

sagebel I like the idea of onboard air, but the reel won't work in northern Canada, too much frozen crap under the truck in winter, I wouldn't see it till May. I like the idea of a plug in system, can you give me some info on your system? Thanks
