    ball joint help please

What did the trick for me was to unscrew each of the mounting stud nuts to where they were even with the top of the stud. Then I took a sacrificeable deepwell socket and put it on the nut. I took a BFH and beat the crap out the socket on each of the four nuts, in turn, until the spindle came...

    Damn Door Chime is annoying!

IIRC, it was pink with a black stripe?? I'm not 100% sure, it was many years ago. But I'm pretty sure it was pink something, either pink or a pink stripe.

    Damn Door Chime is annoying!

It depends on what functions you want to kill. I still wanted to keep the "headlight on" reminder, but didn't want the "key in ignition" beeper. I disconnected the multi-wire plug under the column. Then using a ohm tester, I figured out which wire provided the ground for that function to...

    driveshaft carrier bearing ?'s

Big nut in the middle of the u-joint saddle right next to the carrier bearing.

    driveshaft carrier bearing ?'s

Once you get that big assed nut off, the u-joint yoke with the splines should come off. The nut was TIGHT, I almost broke my vise loose from my work bench doing so. Once I got the nut off, just a few whacks with a mallet and the splined shaft came loose. Yours might take a bit more to get...

    Hunting story

Back when we used to have hot summers, (back before Al Gore--:lmao) I used to hold off on taking my buddy for a walk until after dark and well after the heat of the day. We'd usually do a couple of laps around the subdivision which gets us about 2 miles. One night, we had just started our...

    Turbo is shot

Yep. As easy as it is to do, it is somewhat of a shame more more folks don't tackle the job themselves. The biggest hurdles are: 1) Getting the turbo out of the truck. 2) Getting the exhaust side loose from the center section. You need a 5/16 12 point wrench. If the bolt heads or the...

    Turbo is shot

A few years back, I rebuilt my stock turbo. I got a kit from Bean's. They supplied me with a new compressor wheel as well as a turbine wheel/shaft. This many years after the fact, I don't recall exactly how much it was. But I don't think it was much more than $300.

    "Thanked" counts

I see there are ways were you can see who has the most posts or who has been a member here the longest. Since one of the purposes of this forum is to help others, is it possible to somehow see who has been "Thanked" the most by other members for helpful posts or information? I thought...

    Help Needed Electrical Issues?

I just finished some intensive study of alternators in the aircraft maintenance school I'm in. We had to pull some alternators apart, inspect the components, test the diodes, and check stator windings and rotors windings for opens. While they are different from cars/trucks, they are very...

    prob with climate control

If you're changing between the vents OK, then it's not a vacume source issue. I don't think it is an electrical issue either since all the air routing, including hot vs cold is done via flapper doors that are operated by vacume actuators. My first impression is you have either a bad temp...

Question more new truck-buying decisions '10 vs '11

I have heard the 6.7 does not. But for the 6.4, not for everything, but more often than you should. Which IMHO should be never. There have been pictures posted on the forums that 6.4 owners took at dealers while 1/2 of their trucks were up in the air. To be honest, I don't recall if any...

Question more new truck-buying decisions '10 vs '11

If it were me, I'd get the new 6.7 Ford built motor. I've heard a lot of good about how it compares to GM & Dodge. There are videos on-line that show head to head MPG, towing passing power, and trailer towing handling compared to the other makes. I was very intrigued. One bad thing about...

    Getting a roof rack off

You have three possibilites: 1) Try to get some numbers off the locks and contact the company for some replacement keys. Frequently the key tumbler code will be stamped on the lock. 2) Drill the lock cylinders out. (I've had to do that a couple of times when I was working at a RV dealer.) 3)...

    Engine Fan Always On

That would agree with what I've experienced. I've heard it kick in when the engine is cold and then slowly dis-engage after a few seconds.

    Engine Fan Always On

On my 7.3, there weren't any electrical connections to the fan clutch when I pulled it to R&R the water pump a year ago. There is a metalic coil on the clutch that senses temperature and engages/disengages it as appropriate.

Your opinions on best places to get performance diesel parts?

Ditto that He has always been very good to me. In fact they were very instrumental in helping me resolve a tuning/SES light issue a bit more than a year ago.

    Engine Fan Always On

If I understand, you are refering to the cooling fan behind the radiator. There is only two things that will cause that thing to kick in- 1) A lot of heat coming thru the radiator causing the fan clutch to engage the fan-- or 2) A bad fan clutch that engages too soon or will not dis-engage...

    Home Foreclosures

Yeah, something is not right. I've never heard of any bank/mortgage refusing anybody wanting to give them money. You're either not being told the whole story, or the information you are being told is not 100% "factual". Why the heck was the gal ringing your doorbell?

    Fuel Tank Calibration

The fix for that problem is the "Hutch mod". It fixes that sucking air issue and gets rid of that POS mixing chamber. There is an old thread HERE that explains the Hutch mod pretty well.

    Question Top speed

Years ago over on TDS, I got into a pissin match with some idiot who was saying that trick would work with a 7.3. I told him it was stupid to try something like that at 90+ something MPH and he got all "irritated" with me. I asked him what did he say just before trying that? "Hold my beer...

    Rear speaker question

I replaced my speakers about a year or two ago. They were starting to pop and just sound bad, 6x8 are what I put in. I got mine from Crutchfield. They came with very good install instructions on how to get the door panels off & etc. IIRC I was thinking it was going to take better part of a...
