You do not want to "encourage" sticition to develop. Depending on the ambient temperature, a 5W40 would be a better oil year round. A 10W30 would be better for winter, but I am not a big fan of it for towing heavy or extreme summer heat.
I would switch oils personally, but since it is under...
Find another dealership. The STC fitting (cheaper than an HPOP) on the discharge of the HPOP is a common failure point. The HPOP is not for the late '04 and up pumps..
If your EGR is repeatedly plugging up it is related to poor combustion.
You most likely have one of the issues below:
- extended idling or insufficient operation at temperature (as mentioned already)
- bad EGR valve (Ford updated the EGR valves in 2008 or so)
- old calibration (processor...
It isn't all that hard to do yourself (ICP and IPR). You can save most of that $3000.
You are out of warranty because it is older than 5 yrs - no matter what the warranty covers or your mileage, unless you have an extended warranty.
What oil are you using? How old is it? When was your latest flash update (processors) from Ford?
Some folks have seen improvement w/ a product called Rev-X. I do not usually advocate an oil additive, but quite a few people say it helped.
Yes.
Get a second person and verify that the upper fuel filter is being filled (KOEO - do not crank). Remove the upper fuel filter and observe the fill rate while someone waits for your signal to turn the key off.
Also verify that the oil reservoir is filling properly. You again need two...
There is not an updated cooler. Ford came out w/ a core that replaces ONLY the heat exchange parts (no need to replace the frame). They did this to save everybody $$'s.
The key to oil cooler reliability is proper coolant and proper coolant maintenance (flushes).
The shops below seem to have a good rep:
Golden Circle Ford …… 1432 Highway 45 By-Pass Jackson, TN 38305
ask for Daniel Hardy (tell him the forum folks recommended him)
Alexander Ford, 1129 Murfreesboro Road (96), Franklin, TN 37064, (615) 794-4585
I mentioned the ICP just to make sure what model year the truck was (early 2004 or late 2004). Sorry for the confusion.
Even if the EGR valve wasn't dirty, it could be bad. Still, the cheapest thing is to check the EBP tube for plugging and look for any wire chaffing. The EBP tube can be...
I assume that your truck was built after 9/23/2003? If so, the ICP sensor is on the passenger side valve cover.
The EGR valve is bad or plugged (assuming you still have it). Cleaning could help or you may need a new one. Also, your EBP tube could bery well be plugged. Also, look for wire...
1. Get the truck up on some ramps or jack stands. The key here is to get the truck high enough so you can sit under it comfortably.
2. If you have 4WD, remove the drive shaft that is in your way. It's just a few bolts and is out of there in minutes...easy. Just remember to index the shaft...
Do the high idle mod and you shoud be good. I still wouldn't idle more than I had to even with the mod, but I am not afraid of idling either.
Low fuel pressure is a common issue also -and it can get exensive by ruining injectors. If you have indications of combustion issues (ie carbon)...
If your 2004 was produced after Sept 29, 2003, then it is easy .... the ICP will be on your passenger side valve cover. If not, it is below the turbo. If it is below the turbo, there are two ways to get to it. One from underneath the truck (best done if you have a lift) and the other is from...
