    Question Help needed... Boiling battery!

The PCM only controls the alternator on the DUAL alternator set ups. Edit: Reference: http://flatratetech.com/downloads/Alternator.pdf The chart only gives the 03 and 04 (Econoline, Excursion, and Super Duty), but the 05 and up are the same. Single alternators: The Alternator...

    Question Reving at start up

P2285 indicates a bad ICP sensor (or possibly the plug is oil soaked and shorting out). Unplug the ICP and see how it runs.

    Question Reving at start up

P0405 pretty much means you need a new EGR valve.

    Disassembling EGR valve

Just for the record - Usually it is easier to pull glow plugs to empty the cylinders from hydrolocking than remove injectors.

    Question Help needed... Boiling battery!

Alternators can have intermittant problems, so keep an eye on it. Especially if you buy autozone alternators and batteries. They have great return warranties, but it is not uncommon to find yourself using the warranty! You may have had many other issues - who knows, but it seems crazy to...

    Well here it goes???

I'd start by pulling (inspect and clean) the EGR valve.

Pros and Cons 06 and 07 6.0 Diesel

Several folks I know still have their EGR system intact (and stock EGR and oil coolers). One is tuned at about 500 RWHP and tows horses (heavy). The both are still running the Gold coolant (flushes it every 50k miles). No issues for them. There has to be more to it than just the Gold...

Pros and Cons 06 and 07 6.0 Diesel

Gold coolant IS an Ethylene Glycol coolant. All years had the Gold coolant.

Pros and Cons 06 and 07 6.0 Diesel

Do you know what the specific change was? Was it a formula change in the Ford Gold, or was it a change in the coolant charge at the factory?

Pros and Cons 06 and 07 6.0 Diesel

You are correct Zmann - Larger head bolts were NEVER used. They are all the same. Only the alignment dowell size was changed with the commonized engine.

    Please help!

Any white powdery spots around the degas bottle? The smoke coming from under the hood sounds like an exhaust leak - maybe from the y-pipe bellows.

    #3 clyinder circuit low code

A low circuit code can mean any of these .... wiring, a connector, the injector itself, or the FICM. That is why it is always a good idea to check the wiring for chaffing, look the connectors over, and verify that the FICM connectors are fully snapped in before buying a new injector. I agree...

    #3 clyinder circuit low code

Could be the injector itself. BTW - good voltage at the FICM does not necessarily mean it is a 100% good unit.

    Turbo sticking

There is no service interval specified for the air filter. It is TOTALLY based on the filter minder position. These filter minders work just fine. Most people go well over 75k miles without enough restriction to warrant a filter change. These filters are designed to hold over 3 lbs of dirt...

Recently got p0401 and p123b codes

What I listed in codes indicates that I think he REVERSED the "2" and the "3". The codes I listed are two different numbers (not identical).

Recently got p0401 and p123b codes

????. Are you referring to my post?
  18. B

Recently got p0401 and p123b codes

I believe the code is P132b (not P123b). That is usually the EBP sensor, a dirty turbo, or a bad VGT (less common).

    running out of fuel?

Often times the FICM voltage tests good and you STILL have a bad FICM.
  20. B

    2005 SD 6.0 surges

Always good to get the codes read also. Surging could very well be a turbo issue, or it could be an issue in the high pressure oil system (like the ICP sensor or even the IPR valve).

    Rough idle

Sometimes the damage to the spool valves is permanent and the new flash does not help at all. Each case is different. The best answer is that the health of your injectors can be maintained by ALL of the following: - proper fuel quailty (and proper oil and fuel filter maintenance) - proper...

    Glow plugs

They aren't that bad - just make sure you get the right ones. There are two different lengths. The glow plugs are pretty reliable. Hard starts are more likely to be a FICM issue. Could also be related to injector stiction (oil latching) also. Oil that is old or too thick can cause...
