Start/No Start then Start/No Start. Not Fuel Filters...

Don't get a new FICM. They are still made with weak parts. As I posted, get it upgraded at one of the two places I recommended. New ones are just as bad as the old ones. Some people get new power boards, but the logic board goes bad about as often as the power board does. Since you can not...

I guess the last reliability thing to throw your way is in regards to the oil cooler. You really need to keep an eye on the oil vs coolant temperature differentials. Anything approaching 15 degrees is a potential issue with the oil cooler being plugged. Changing to an EC-1 rated ELC coolant...

I understand about tight budgets, but every model year has some weak points and sometimes when you are into the "tear down" mode, it is ultimately best to address them! The 2003-2004 HPOP issues is truly a disappointing issue - just like the STC fitting on the 2005 and up and the 2004.5 and up...

Also - did you ever look at injector #1 connector and wiring?

Unfortunately, an electrical issue w/ the IPR is hard to nail down with confidence, so I hate to recommend changing something simply based on a failure rate that is a bit higher than other components. Fact is that sometimes the FICM can do essentially the same thing - erratic performance. That...

Start/No Start then Start/No Start. Not Fuel Filters...

Typically intermittent starts are electrical. If the ICP connector broke, then you probably should replace it. That is not an uncommon thing to have to do with the early engines. The IPR actuator is a key suspect when you have intermittent starting behavior, but usually it causes unexpected...

I agree that checking power to the pump is important, but in this case, he proved that the pump will fill the secondary fuel filter bowl quickly with the key on (post #10).

That advertisement is wrong. That first pump (SKU:440-0014) will not fit in ANY 2004 model year. It is an error that sadly gets perpetuated by a lot of parts suppliers. That style pump is ONLY 2005 and up. If you try to fit that pump in an 04 you will be VERY sorry.

If it comes to needing a new HPOP, I would buy an upgraded one from DieselSite. It is expensive, but VERY reliable. Buying a cheap HPOP will have a high probability of giving you trouble!! The early 04 and the late 04 HPOPs will "interchange". The late 04 is the same pump with SLIGHTLY...

Leaks in the high pressure oil system are ALL internal. You won't see those leaks. I'll find a few videos for you. I do Think your turbo is probably stuck (THE VARIABLE VANES IN THE EXHAUST WHEEL INLET) ..... in addition to your issues with ICP

OK - last comment on the codes. P2287 sure makes it look like the ICP sensor or the wiring is bad. Now - if you have tried disconnecting the ICP sensor in the troubleshooting process, then that might be the cause of this code. Have you been trying to start with the sensor disconnected? It is...

At this point, I am going to assume that the turbo issues are what is causing a P0404 code to be thrown.

Also, the P0261 code is important, It means: #1 Injector - Circuit Low (open circuit): FICM has detected an open injector circuit. Injector circuit open or defective coil. Please CLOSELY inspect the wiring and connector to injector #1.

In addition to the issues with the igh-pressure oil pressure, you have an issue with the turbo system (and controls): P0132B detail below: P132B is a code related to the calibration from the recall 06E17 (part of the Inferred EBP strategy). It means that there is a problem with the VGT system...

Wow. Your attention to detail is great. We don't always see that!! The first thing to focus on is that you have no pressure in the high-pressure oil system, even though the IPR valve is commanded to be completely closed. TYPICALLY, if the IPR valve is the issue, you wil at least have 150-200...

Since a fuel pressure sensor was never installed at the factory, you can not get fuel pressure from the scan tool. You need the following PIDs when cranking (obviously when it isn't starting): cam/crank sync FICM sync rpms fuel pulse width FICM MPower FICM LPower ICP pressure ICP sensor volts...

Regarding the Neutral Safety Switch - What you have is actually a Transmission Range Sensor, so it isn't a simple switch. Sometimes they fail and you will get a no-start. I do not know of a simple way to bypass that sensor. It isn't just applying voltage to the signal return circuit. I...

Start/No Start then Start/No Start. Not Fuel Filters...

Be aware that sometimes trash in the fuel tank can get sucked up against the fuel pick-up screen and restrict flow. Hard to prove that without draining the tank though. With the filter out and an empty bowl, how fast does the upper fuel filter bowl fill up? You don't want to see any air...

Start/No Start then Start/No Start. Not Fuel Filters...

Thanks for the reply. This forum doesn't get a lot of traffic, so I didn't want your thread to "fall into a crack". Did you order a pump by itself or the entire HFCM (which is more expensive and it includes the pump)? More than likely you will fix it with a new pump.

What is the fuel level in your tank? Keep an eye on cranking voltage. It shouldn't get below 10.5 volts. If it does, you can damage the FICM. Also, just be aware that you need 150+ cranking rpms to start.
