    Rear Brake Rotor Removal

I had the parking brake on when I removed mine and after I figured out that it was the parking brake that was fighting me, all was well and it came right off with a little penetrating oil and lots of pulling and tapping. Jim

    Decal application advice

Decals on glass or the type like flames or what have you on the doors, fenders etc. are put on just like has been said, water and a couple of drops of water. I watched a guy put their company sign on a van truck and he was able to move it just where he wanted it then squeegee the water out from...

    Question EGT temps, what's high?

I guess I just don't see what is so funny and what should you have known better about. I see no earlier post by you. If my information is incorrect, I sure will stand to be corrected. My information comes from years of driving a diesel and much reading about the subject from many sources. Maybe...

    Question Rear Dif

I just changed my fluid and there is a tag on one of the cover bolts that says, use 75-140 synthetic only. Is had a black RTV gasket and I reinstalled the cover with black RTV. Go ahead and used the RTV, its what Ford used when they manufactured it. Jim

    Question EGT temps, what's high?

Post turbo temps have little or no correlation to the piston temps. Yes, it will rise and fall with the actual piston temp but the turbo uses up a lot of the temperature or BTUs to produce the boost pressure and there is a significant temp drop from one side of the turbo to the other. The amount...

Question Looking For Affordable Differential Covers with a Drain Plug???

I just ordered one for the rear. 81.90 shipped to Michigan. I think this is a nice rear cover for the money. My stamped out oem cover is looking like it is about to rust through and this looks like it will do the job as good as any of them. Jim

DO's and DONT's of Locking Hubs

This is a great thing to do. I also find a dirt road and put it in 4x4 for a mile or two as well every month or so. Jim

DO's and DONT's of Locking Hubs

I will assume that you have non automatic locking hubs. If they are automatic, you have to do nothing. The hubs do what has been said, lock the front axle to the wheel. I have driven an entire winter with them in lock. It hurts nothing except for the gas mileage. On the truck I did this with...

Regular Unleaded put in my diesel.. help

I have never been able to figure out why anyone would want to run a vehicle under a 1/4 of a tank. Do they get better mileage when running on empty. I never take a chance on it going to empty with all the problems that can arise from running it till empty. Its good, in Michigan, to have the tank...

Tugger kit vs FTVB vs 50.00 Sonnax/tricumulator kit

I have been using the Sonnaz/tricumulator kit for about 6 years now and I am happy with what it does for the shifting etc. Its a good $50 mod. Don't know what the other kit does but I sure don't need anything more than the S/T shift kit. Took about 1 1/2 hours to do laying on my back on the...

How do I tell if I have forged rods??

They are not power coated. the rods are made from a process that uses powered metal that is somehow packed into a mold under extreme pressure and then is heated to almost a melting temp. The result is a very precision casting that is strong and a lot cheaper than forged. For most conditions, it...

How do I tell if I have forged rods??

Actually the powered rods are more than adequate for the stock engine and even slightly hopped up a bit. It has been said that they are good to 400 HP. Exceed that HP and when they go, they break and not bend like the forged ones. Jim

mix conventional tranny fluid with synthetic?

Everything I have ever read about this situation including the Webb sites says its OK to do. Some oil companies even blend regular and synthetic and call it a blended oil or synthetic blend. Jim

    HPOP oil reservoir, oil change?

I think you are right on. About the only advantage to changing the HPOP oil would be to get every last drop out of the engine. I understand it is only about a quart and like has been said, its not enough to worry about. I might be tempted to get rid of it changing to synthetic but I've never...

    shift kits

I have the Sonnax valve and and tricumulator springs. You will find they will do a great job with the shifting without adding anything else. I've had these for several years and really like the effect on the tranny. Jim

Question Slider or Non Slider Fifth wheel hitch

I have a short box also and I'm pulling a 26' fiver with the 12" extended pin box. I have used the slider once in the past 4 or 5 years and then I think I could have gotten by without it. You have to be extra careful not to let the trailer hit the cab but caution is in order any time you back a...

When I look up about 2' higher than my computer screen, my Dad's flag is proudly displayed in an oak display case. To me it represents freedom, but freedom at a great cost. When my son gets a place to display the flag, I will give it to him. My hope is that he will treasure it with the same...
