They just said on CNN, the roof of the Metro Dome in Minneapolis just collapsed. The Giants and Vikings were supposed to play today, but it got switched to Monday night because the Giants got stuck in Kansas City.

    Storm stories

With the winter storm having such a huge effect across a huge part of the country, I thought a thread about any storm experiences would be appropriate. Last night I made sure my cell phone was on the nightstand in case Mrs TG had trouble getting home from work in the morning. Evidently that...

How to spend my Christmas vacation?

I just finished my finals today. That means I'm now 75% complete in my schooling to get my A&P certificate. One of my instructors is involved with the local EAA chapter. The A&P mechanic at the airport is an EAA member also. The two got to talking and the mechanic extended an offer to have...

    Help Needed wipers

Here's the turn signal mod I did a while back TURN SIGNAL MOD But it doesn't have the broken cable plug I had to fix. I gotta look some more.

    Help Needed wipers

Check the wire harness connector that plugs into the turn signal lever/ wiper control module. Mine had the locking tabs on the connector broken off and the connector plug was backing out of the turn signal lever/ wiper control module, making only partial & intermittant contact. I was...

    7.3 shuts off

Bad i.e. intermittant fuse maybe. I've seen fuses that were cracked, making intermittant contact.

    mind boogled (glow plugs?)

If you disconnect the harness connector that goes under the valve cover, IIRC the outer two wires on each end are the glow plugs power leads. If you use a OHM meter, you can check for continuity to ground thru the glow plug, it'll tell you if that glow plug is bad or not. When they go bad, they...

    It just quit!!!

U gettin fuel under pressure to the fuel filter? Quick way of checking is to open the drain and turn the key on. If it changes from a dribble to a spray when you turn the key on, then the fuel pump is working and fuel is moving.

    It just quit!!!

I may be off base here since you have an OBS and I have a 99 Superduty, but do you have a check engine light when you first turn the key on? If there are not any lights that briefly test after turning the key on, that is a indicator the PCM is not getting any power. The culprit is often a...

    &%@#+ Jury Duty!!!!!!!!!!!

The ladies in the clerk's office bumped me back on the schedule. So I didn't get excused, more like postponed. The judge refused to excuse me, in spite of the serious financial and acadamic hardship it would cause during the school year. Hopefully when my name comes up again, it won't be until...

    2002 superduty balljoints

You can save a lot of money by doing it yourself. A lot of auto parts places have the tools for borrow /rent. I bought an inexpensive 12 ton press that I used to do mine. It cost me about $120. But when you keep in mind, shop labor would have likely been over $600, it was a bargain. The...

    2002 superduty balljoints

There's no hard fast rule. It depends on how the truck has been driven. A truck that has seen nothing but highway miles, won't need ball joints as soon as a truck that has been on rough dirt roads or off-road a lot. You'll have to get the front wheels off the ground and check for looseness...

    Laid Off After 23 Years

My sympathies to you. I have some recent experience with being layed off. My exit two years ago, wasn't quite as cordial as yours. My ex-employer was not nearly as concerned about the people they let go as your former bosses are. If you were to look for a silver lining, your severence package...

Attn Wheel & Tires Guru's: Pontiac wheel question

I'm looking at some 225/55R16. According to the tire spec's web site I was looking at, diameter was only .1" off, not enough to be noticable in any tangible way. The width was maybe .5" narrower, which will be better in snow/ice.

Attn Wheel & Tires Guru's: Pontiac wheel question

Are the lug pattern/size the same? The current 17" rims have almost 2" of clearance between the caliper and the rim, enough for a rim only 1" smaller in diameter.

    comment Kent: fire the plumber...

Your link was a dead end. If you're refering to the storey about the giant crack appearing in the ground, I heard about that. It was bound to happen sooner or later. For years us yoopers have been trying to breakaway from Michigan and form our own state: SUPERIOR. Looks like it has...

Attn Wheel & Tires Guru's: Pontiac wheel question

Currently there are 225/50r17 on it. Replacements from what the tire dealerships tell me, cost about $150 each plus tax and all the fees. Hell, the tires on my truck didn't cost much different than that. I'd like to get some 16's on it. I can get some real decent tires for about half that...
