First long fifthwheel pull with new 6.7 PSD

Congrats on the truck and successful haul. 10w30 is the factory fill, and the dealer installing 10w30 actually did you right. While the manual states thats severe service is pulling a trailer for more than 1000 miles, please consider that they had to put something in their for the morons that...

Swapping 6.4 for a 6.0 can it be done?

You can do anything with enough time, money and resources. Swapping a 6.4 for 6.0 is just trading one set of problems for another, but at least the 6.0 problems can be addressed. Much easier to get 6.0 truck to start with. If swapping, why not consider a Cummins swap?

Still Around just in RV school

Congrats on graduating. Cool accomplishment! My condolences to you and your family on your Father's passing. As long as Jayco continues to build RV's there will be a need for repairmen. The first 2 years I had my new 2016, it spent 8 months in repair. I have no idea why toilet repair would even...

Help! new to the diesel world...

Well, welcome to what will likely be the most challenging diesel experience you'll ever have. The 6.0 is like a flirty girlfriend. She isn't going to settle down with you until you give her attention and a ring. So let's get you started. Before you do anything to it, you need some facts. Has...

    Question Anyone ever install this?

Bypass on the 6.0 is a GREAT idea. Anything that keeps the oil cleaner is good for the injectors. Super simple on the 6.0 as well. A tap off the filter cap, a return to the oil filler tube through the cap. Frantz is very good, but the cartridges are a bit on the pricy side. Frantz is now part of...

    oil additive

The Lucas MSDS doesn't reveal what's in it. Do you want to add something not knowing what's in it? Why would you add something that doesn't bring anything to the table? The "regular "stabilizer is nothing more than thick oil, a viscosity of about 110cst, a very thick gear oil. "Lubricating...

    Question Engine Oil of Choice

Shell the clear leader in the poll. Lots of advertising, a recognized brand, my buddy uses it, whatever. Recently, Discovery channel had been running Rotella ads during auto themed shows. For 6.7 guys it's either Rotella of Valvoline Premium Blue because that's what is on Ford's approved list...

    hot shot secret

You'll see more moly and boron. BUT, you won't know where it came from without a baseline. A used oil analysis revealing calcium, moly, boron, etc. is only as good as the virgin oil analysis to compare it to. And if you switched brands this time around, there will be some oil from the previous...

    diesel engine heater

6.7's get a heater depending upon final destination. It's an option otherwise. You can order the kit off of Amazon, but unless you get North Pole cold, you probably won't need it. The 6.7 fires up readily under 99% of conditions. My 6.0 like being plugged in when it closed in on 0 degrees.

    Doing Some Baseline Maintenance

5w40 is fine, especially in frigid temps. One caveat, the 6.0 will shear that 40 weight to a 30 weight in about 3000 miles. Just the nature of the beast. A 10w30 will stay in grade much better in the 6.0 . If your temperature range will let you, any of the current 10w30's are excellent oils...

    Question Rear Axle Servicing

First change really should be early. Between 5 and 10k IMO. Lots of metal that gets shedded when new. Then every 30-40k after that if towing. 75w140. I ran Valvoline Syn-Power for a long time. It's a fine lubricant when changed at the proper interval, and I never needed additional friction...

    5R110 Transmission Longevity?

Had 140k on mine when I traded it. No issues. Mainly used to tow 9k full time. Changed fluid every 30 to 40k, with filters internal and external each time. Always used Mercon LV. LV and SP are not the same, in spite of what many websites parrot. Flush doesn't do much good unless the place...

Question Black Smoke Under hard Acceleration

You have to run the 6.0 to keep the vanes free. It was designed to haul loads, not groceries. That being said, consider a FICM flash with the Atlas 40. It changes the RPM settings on the vanes, changes the fueling slightly, and makes the truck much more responsive and easy to drive. It's a...

    Oil Leak From Drain Plug

The late 12 and up steel pan fixes this problem straight away. There are (some) aftermarket aluminum pans that increase capacity and have cooling fins as well. Extra capacity is always nice, (solution to pollution is dilution). My BIL's 11 drips as well. I tell him it's not a leak, it's marking...

Question Hot Shot's Secret Stiction Eliminator

In a 6.0, Lube Gard Heavy Duty Engine Protectant and Valvoline Premium Blue 10w30 is the secret to minimizing nailing stiction. Opti-Lube in the fuel every tank keeps the injectors happy.

    Storing my 6.7

A usual dose of your choice of fuel add, and a bacteria killer such as Sta-Bil Diesel Biocide, FPPF Killem, or Power Service Bio Kleen. You need to do something. Bio laced fuels will absorb moisture, and moisture enables slime growth. Considering the way Ford will deny any warranty work on the...

    DEF

DEF is DEF. AutoZone recently closed out all their gallon DEF bottles for .97 each, so I'll be running Blue DEF for the forseeable future. Was running Traveller brand from Tractor Supply. 5 gallon goes on sale often for less than 15.00 .
