    That sucks that you have to get rid of the lift and big tires since I'm guessing that's a lot of what attracted you to the truck. Too many people buy trucks for show and don't actually use them for work or towing so the gears in the axles don't matter when they put the lift and big tires.

    It actually takes more fuel to start a diesel than you'll burn idling for 5, 10 minutes but it's still going to hurt your overall fuel mileage. And if the engine idles at low rpm for an extended time it can cause internal problems such as washed out rings and valves.

    Most will claim that running with the hubs locked hurts fuel mileage but the amount of time my truck idles during the winter hurts mileage a lot more than the little bit of extra drag added by having the hubs locked.

    Newbie question about four wheel drive

    Most newer super duties are using the auto/manual style hub. I much prefer that to a strictly auto hub. In Alaska I lock the hubs at the beginning of winter and unlock them in the spring. The vacuum operation is too slow when driving on icy roads for 6 months and going in and out of 4x4.

    I used one of these Futumo valves on my Dodge diesel for more than 40,000 miles and never had a problem with it. Only time I had anything come close to contacting it was when the truck slid in to a 5 foot snow filled ditch and even then there was no problem.

    The truck goes in tomorrow to be looked at. I have the list of service that was performed on the truck when it was traded in and the dealer replaced the front brake pads and turned the rotors.     You can get large magnetics that go around your filter to catch more metal shavings than the filter alone if you're really worried about it.     I looked up the list of things covered by my Ford Extra Care extended service plan and it has bearings (front and rear) and drive axle housing (including all internal parts) listed as being covered. I could be naive but one of those 2 things has to include the hub.

    The only way the FX4 package is available is with the limited slip rear end. With the torque that the Powerstroke puts out you really don't need any lower than 3.73. My 2001 Dodge Cummins had 3.55 gears and moved 15,000 pounds with no trouble and I only had 505lbft of torque.

    3L is 3.73 limited slip. That's the same as my truck. I had to search a few sites before I finally found that code. I have found most sites have not been updated for the 2005 upgrades/changes. Does your truck have the FX4 package?
