What did I do to my truck today? :dunno Well I'll tell ya. :D I noticed that there was a massive fuel leak under the truck when at a stop sign or traffic light. Drove home 50 miles not knowing from where it was leaking but it had full fuel pressure. It was puddling under the fuel bowl and...

2000 F250 white smoke at startup

A bit of white smoke upon start-up is normal as long as it goes away in a minute or two. It's unburned fuel. As long as the exhaust turns clear your truck is acting normal.

    106* here yesterday.....

Yup yesterday was a bit hotter than Saturday. Saw 102*F at my house. Stayed inside (HDTV + A/C + siesta :D) until late afternoon when a strong sea breeze blew in. By dusk it had dropped below 65*.

Question Heat stress on both batteries

Side note: Joe on Hwy 5 there were signs along the highway near Avenal and south saying "Congress created this dust bowl" that were adjacent to dried up fields. Don't remember seeing so many dried fields in years past. What a shame.

Question Heat stress on both batteries

The 12v heaters were never turned on the whole trip. It was so friggin' hot. The SVO heat was solely due to my coolant loop passing through a heat exchanger so there was no greater amp draw than normal and the entire trip home was without the A/C. Secondly I have an aftermarket alternator on...

Question Heat stress on both batteries

Perhaps, but after driving for over 12 hours in the desert heat the alternator coil wires absorbed the engine heat (heat sink) and electricity through very hot wires does not produce/carry as much current as cool wires can. Think about this. Why then are super conductors cooled with nitrogen? So...

Question Heat stress on both batteries

Just got back from a long road trip through the Mojave desert where it was way over 100*F. Seems that my charging system was stressed because the charging needle never got as far to the right as it does where I live. I was so concerned that I would have a charging failure in the middle of...

Question What did you do to your truck today?

I drove it 950 miles in one day (17 hours) from SF Bay Area to Tucson. Ran great even in 102*F heat. Tranny never got over 190*F. Coolant peaked at 203*F. EGT's maxed out at 1000*F. The vegoil system performed flawlessly without the need for 12v heaters. Averaged just under 20 mpg! :hail I'm...

    Compression test

My '97 has 310K with the original injectors and drives like a bat outta Hades. Compression looks fine. Have you had any UOAs (used oil analysis)? A good UOA is another barometer of a healthy engine.

Question What did you do to your truck today?

Today I'm spring cleaning the interior. The dog hair and debris will be vacuumed with my shop vac. A year's worth of road dust will be blown out with a leaf blower. Then a wipe down with Simple Green. Then Windex. Then I'll treat the A/C system with a deodorizer. But no matter how clean I get...

It never rains in California in May

Winter '97-'98 was the wettest I can remember. I still have my knee-high rubber boots to wade through the mud. :D Wasn't here in the 80's but the mid-70's were definitely drought years. I remember them well. That's when they coined the phrase "If it's yellow let it mellow...if it's brown flush...
