3 temprature capable gauge, useing 1, 100 to 230 degree temp guage. Engine, Trans and Diff temps.

Thought I'd pass it on.

Used 2 SPDT micro switches (Radio Shack). Mounted one switch down on the Dash, left side of the steering column.

Hooked the Trans leed to it's upper pole.

Diff leed to the lower pole.

Center wire to the other switches upper pole.

Mounted the second switch to the upper left of the Temp gauge, on it's "A" pillar pod.

Hooked the engine temp leed to the lower pole.

Center pole to the gauge.

CONFUSED YET ???

Here's what I git:

With the >Pod< switch in the up position: Engine Temp. (where I normaly keep it)

With the >Pod< switch in the down position: by flipping the Dash mounted switch, I git Trans temp (up), or Diff temp (down).

Hope I made sense here.

The REAL BIG, REAL temprature Indication is: THE ENGINE TEMP !!!!

For those that don't have a REAL engine temp gauge ? If you tow or work yer PSD ? I'd say: Git one.

I'v seen 220 degrees (pul'n a 7% grade)..... That FORD idiot gauge just stayed.... right there, in the middle of "Normal"... Makes me think: when you hear the LOUD Bang.... it's prolly to late. If yer relying on that thing.

Knowing Tranny & Diff temps are a "Warm'n Fuzzy" Too :sweet :sweet

I saw a high of 223 degrees last week pulling 6-7% grades in the desert between Kingman, Arizona and Laughlin, NV. This was read using data streams on the Evo heading west to Las Vegas and AutoEnginuity on the way back. This was at about 2pm both ways. IAT was reading 112-115 degrees.

What's the breakdown point of oil?

Good idea :sweet How about another switch so the guys with 4x4 could also run transfer-case and front axle temp ;)

Thats a loaded question with dicey answers. Typically, you would like to see your engine oil not breakdown (begin to vaporize on hot cylinder walls and leave carbon deposits) at temps in the 400° F range for a MINIMUM.

Now, at what point does oil breakdown begin? Dunno:dunno , what kind of contaminants are floating around in the oil.....fuel, coolant, silicates, metals etc etc..........

thanks for the idear,
i have been toying with a rear diff temp and coolant

save some space and only have to buy one more POD:D

antonio an ait of 115 ? wholly cow, thats cooking, does your evo aslo pick up teh charge air temp as it enters teh intake? i watched it a few times with my predator to see how much cooling the ic was doing. quite amazing at the temp differences.

The Evo doesn't read Manifold Air Temp but my AE does. I don't remember what it was and some how I didn't get it logged when I was logging the IAT with AE. But yes it's pretty cool to see the IC at work.

IAT had nothing to do with EOT. If I backed out of it came down reasonably quickly.:sweet Still it was friggin hot in the desert!

questions

bigjoe-

but oil temp can get up to 400? i am confused. are you monitoring the oil temp or is that an aside for now.

i thought about using a rotary switch to do the same thing to get coolant, future veg tank, and maybe fuel temps on the same gauge.

why SPDT's instead of rotary?

I'm monitoring Coolant Temp... for now. Oil Temp is next.

I went with SPDT Micro switches for their size and appearance.. Just a personal preference.

As I said: I leave the Pod micro in the Up position, to see >REAL< Engine Temps, flip it down to see Tranny Temps. Just check Diff Temps, now and then.... Cuz I can. I'v only seen 120* (max) from the Diff. (The Mag-HighTec Diff Cover ?)

I'm think'n: Center is OFF on these Micro's..... So theres no limit to the number of Temps you could Monitor, from 1 gauge... if you wanted to.

:dunno
