Does anyone get a whining noise that sounds like power steering pump, but doesn't change when you turn the wheel. It's not when the turbo spools either. I cannot trace it, but it seems to be louder when truck is cold.:dunno

How many miles on your truck? Have you flushed the power steering pump fluid as it may be cavitating.

My power steering unit was making a buzzing noise at about 40k miles,a friend and I flushed the PS fluid with about 2-3 quarts, the buzzing noise was gone and the truck steered & braked better:)

Might be worth checking out.

I'm waiting for someone to say sounds like my ex-wife.:lmao

I had a noise like you described a year or two back. Sounded like a p/s pump, worse when cold and variied with the throttle. I couldn't trace it either. Last summer I had the bearings go on my turbo. Replaced the turbo bearings and no more noise.

Before you R&R the PS pump you might try this:

With everything warmed up to Op Temps, Turn the steering wheel FULL Left & Right.. Bump it against FULL left & Right. Shut it down, let it set foe a few minutes, check the PS fluid level, add if needed.

What this does is... purges any air that may have accumulated over time & miles when the fluid level might have been a Tad low. (JMO but these Ford PS pumps are very touchy about the fluid level. Allways have been)

I've had the "Whine/Buzz" a couple times in 128K, did the above.... It worked. Works on the wife's Wind-Star too.

(Got this idea/fix from my Dealer/Service Mgr, many years ago)

My truck has around 160k miles and hopefully it isn't the turbo bearrings. I will try the P/S trick. I usually use a vacuum pump and it does a good job, but maybe this time it didn't.
