I am starting to think about getting an OBD2 device. So far, I have seen lots of confusing stuff. Which forum is the right place to learn and ask questions?

What are the important things to consider when looking at the sensors on our trucks? Somewhere I thought I read that PSD's have a bunch of non-standard sensor assignments. Can anyone confirm or refute?

I am hoping to get something PC based and cheap.

Does anyone have any experience with the CarCode program from http://www.obd-2.com/ ?

AutoEnginuity www.autoenginuity.com

its the last code reader you'll ever need.

Works as a basic OBD-II reader, but then also has the Manufacturer Specific codes, which most generic readers DO NOT.

MANY guys have the AE, and its great. I have one, and its been very useful when I have needed it.

i am still mystified on a couple of things-

what years are CAN bus. i am not finding clear info on what components and waht years are CAN bus on the trucks.

P-code listings. where do we find the vehicle specific error codes?

AutoEnginuity says that they have a special sensor package for 7.3L PSD's. I have not checked with them yet, but what excatly does this mean? Are there sensors that are not part of the standard Ford package?

thanks

AE has a Ford enhanced that covers all drivetrains and a specific Powerstroke diesel selection. You can run cylnder contribution test, injector buzz test, and GPR test. Data logging of all PIDs is pretty cool and easy to use. I highly recommend it! I got the domestic package.:thumbs

I would get the CAN enabled AE - it's backwards compatible and then your covered for future trucks/cars or if you just want to help someone out.

AE includes these in the program.

You will want the enhanced package. If you dig deep enough on the AE site it will give you a list of all the sensors.

AE is pricey - but you will not be dissapointed. He also puts out updates on a regular basis that are free to download so you are always up to date. Matter of fact he just had a major program update - again it was free. Service is really second to none - you call and you get an expert - no run around. I don't regret for a minute a single dime I spent on it.

And of course I'm an all Ford familyu - so the package works on all the cars :sweet
