Wheel weights. Is there a certain type that is supposed to be used on aluminum wheels? Reason I ask is that on my last truck (01 Dually) – when I had the stock tires replaced you really could not tell where the weights were. When I had the third set put on - the previous set of weights had really messed up the aluminum. That whole dissimilar metal deal had gone rampant.

So I’d like to make sure that if there is a certain type – I don’t get the wrong ones when I have the new tires put on. So if there is a certain type - can I tell just by looking at them?

There are some stick on weights that go on the inner part of the wheel that are the least noticeable.

As to conventional weights, you want the coated ones to prevent corossion. And try to make sure they only use new weights, the old ones lose the finish and start the corrosion process. Usually you can tell if they are coated just by the way they look. There should also be a letter code on the weight. Try doing a search on that and with any luck you can find the info on that weight. Some are just painted, while others have a vinyl or other coating.

There is a wide variety of weight shapes and coatings available. A web search on "coated wheel weights" will give you lots to read.

The bag of beads thing works. I had them put in my dually tires about 30K miles ago and no problems. The tire man said it's what they use in the big trucks and they are ceramic beads. The size of the tire determines the weight of the bag. Oh, he also said 2 golf balls would do the same thing!
